Not everything you see is correct, especially the icons on our phones. Many times, even though our iPhones and iPads show an icon connected to Wi-Fi, the Internet doesn’t work in reality.
That is, no internet access. The phone will not load pages in the browser and applications such as Instagram, Facebook, etc. will not be able to display new data. So what to do in such a tragic situation?
Do not worry. Everything will be fine soon. Just follow the fixes given in the post to resolve Wi-Fi connection problems on iOS devices.
- 1 Restart phone and modem

Restart phone and modem
If you haven’t tried this yet, stop whatever you’re doing and restart your iOS device (iPhone and iPad). While you’re at it, restart your router and modem. You never know when this little fix might work like a savior.
Turn on Airplane Mode
Airplane mode blocks all network connections on the device. Sometimes, turning on airplane mode can solve Wi-Fi problems.
To turn on airplane mode, open the control center and tap the airplane mode icon to turn it on. Wait a while. Then disable it.
Forget the Wi-Fi network
A simple solution that has proven to benefit many users is to reset the Wi-Fi network. Before doing that, make sure you know the Wi-Fi password because you will have to enter it when you sign up again.
To do so, follow these steps:
Step 1: Open Settings and access Wi-Fi.
Step 2: Tap on your Wi-Fi and select Forget this network on the next screen.
Use a simple name for Wi-Fi
If your Wi-Fi name has complex characters, try a simple name. Sometimes, difficult-to-recognize characters in the Wi-Fi name also interfere with its operation.
Turn off Wi-Fi support
Wi-Fi Assist is a feature that helps your iOS device switch to mobile data during times of poor Wi-Fi connection. While the feature is useful, it may appear in the middle for Wi-Fi to work properly. So try turning it off and see the results.
Here’s how to turn it off:
Step 1: Open Settings and go to Cellular Data.
Step 2: Scroll down and turn off Wi-Fi Assist.
Reset Network Settings
Another useful fix is to reset the network settings. While that won’t erase any data, it will reset network connections like Wi-Fi, mobile data, etc. Know in detail what happens after resetting network settings.
To do so, here is what must be done.
Step 1: In Settings, find General Settings.
Step 2: Scroll down and tap Reset, then Reset Network Settings.
Check recently installed apps
Have you recently installed an app that is not allowed in your country? Delete it quickly and your Wi-Fi should be back up and running.
Enable or Disable Location Services
Some countries require you to turn on location services for the Wi-Fi network to work properly. If that is disabled, turn it on. However, if the setting is already on, try disabling it and see if there’s any difference in Wi-Fi.
To turn it on or off, follow these steps:
Step 1: In the Settings of your phone, go to the Privacy section.
Step 2: Tap on Location Services and enable it on the next screen.
Step 3: Scroll down and tap on System Services. On the next screen, turn on the Wi-Fi network. If it’s already enabled, turn it off.
Disable VPN
Whether you’re using the VPN through the built-in feature or through the app, try disabling it. Sometimes VPN also disrupts the Wi-Fi connection to some extent.
Change modem security
Apple recommends using WPA2 Personal (AES) security for your modem. However, if your router is old, use WPA/WPA2 mode. If your modem’s security mode is different from these two, change the security mode to one of them. Hopefully, internet access will be regained on your iPhone.
Use Google DNS
By default, all Wi-Fi networks will automatically configure DNS. However, sometimes changing it to OpenDNS or Google DNS will help with Internet problems.
You should also try doing that in this scenario. For that, follow these steps:
Step 1: In Settings on your phone, go to Wi-Fi.
Step 2: Tap the Wi-Fi network that is giving you trouble.
Step 3: Click Configure DNS and select Manual.
Step 4: Delete the entry under DNS server and first enter Google DNS i.e. 8.8.8.8. Then enter 8.8.4.4 by clicking Add server. Also use OpenDNS values: 208.67.222.123, 208.67.220.123.
Wi-Fi Password Verification
Have you or someone else recently changed your Wi-Fi password? If so, that could also be the problem. You need to forget the Wi-Fi network and then enter a new password.
Reset modem
Finally, if nothing works, reset your modem. That is, you need to start from scratch and re-enter all your internet details. So, before resetting, check that you have all the information.
Hello, Internet
No one wants to live without the internet. The Wi-Fi icon looking directly at you will add fuel to the fire if the internet isn’t working. Hopefully, the above solutions will fix internet problems on your iPhone and iPad.
