How to Effectively Research a Topic on Android Like on PC

Usually, we research a topic on our laptop or PC. They are more convenient because we can easily search for resources, organize important points and capture the necessary images with the help of effective software suites available. After doing so, we can prepare our notes and easily present it in our main research paper. However, can you do all of this on an Android smartphone?

I don’t know about the latter, but I do know about the former. Yes, you can research your topic as efficiently and easily on Android as you do on PC. Let’s see how you can do that.

How to research a topic effectively on Android

A web browser is an integral part of the study. You can search, sort and extract content to your liking. Now you can do the same thing on your Android Smartphone with new task based browser – Tangram Browser.

With the Tangram browser, you can easily search web pages and gather resources, form a resource stack, and then organize the content needed for research. With that, you have the ability to take notes and take screenshots. After all, you can bookmark content or an entire study session for further use. Now let’s explore Tangram.

How to use Tangram browser

This application is quite easy to use. There are basically three sections – Search (Web), Stacks and Bookmarks, which we will explore further. However, before doing anything, you will definitely want to increase the font size. Drag out the sidebar from the left and you’ll have options. Now, let’s start our research. I took Ly-Fi as an example here.

Web Part

So usually in research, people use Google. However, Tangram offers all the search engines. Tap the search icon or the so-called FAB button in the lower right corner. At the top, tap the tangram icon and you’ll see all the popular search engines including Bing, Yahoo, YouTube, Duckduckgo, and both Chinese search engines.

Now, if you keep the default Tangram search, you will get Google search results in the style of the app’s native design.

There is a benefit to searching using Tangram search. You can send a link directly to the Stack by swiping it from the left, and remove it from the list by swiping the link from the right. Any links you open from the web will be saved for future use until you delete the link.

Now, if you choose to search using other search engines, this may not be the case. It will load the page like a normal web browser but you won’t get the swiping features when you search in Tangram.

Now, when opening links from no matter what search engine you use, you will see a toolbar at the top. Tools included Ridge icon (to send it to your stack), Snapshots And reload. One feature I would like to point out in the web part is grouping of links.

There is no tabulation to open multiple links. Instead, however, Tangram groups links by the original link from where they were opened. So, as in our case, it’s google.com. To group a link, you’ll have to open it in a new tab. Long press the link for more options.

As shown in the screenshot links above are grouped based on the parent link from where they were opened. But don’t forget to open them in a new tab. In addition, you will receive a toast said grouped.

Now, after you have explored all the links in the web part, you can simply send the best ones to Ridge by swiping from the right. Links that are not swiped will remain as web parts until you delete them.

Stack section

Now, when you link to the stack, you will have the ability to take notes. Long press on the link and on the toolbar you will get the note icon. Click it and add your note for the link. You can copy-paste content from the web and add it to your notes.

Or what you can do is get one Snapshots. Highlight that section and take a snapshot. You can also extract images. Everything is stacked beautifully under the link.

(You don’t get ANY features when taking notes, though.)

Well, that’s all there is to it, in Ridge part. You find the best content and record the important stuff. Now, you have to send them to bookmark part. To do so again swipe the link from the left.

Bookmarks

In the bookmarks section, you organize these links into folders. Depending on the context of the links and how you plan your research, create directories accordingly. You can also create a folder inside a folder. Well, that means you can create a specific folder for each topic you research.

You can select multiple links and move them into a folder or just create a new folder.

The app isn’t perfect though

In the sidebar menu you will see a saying that Your current version of Tangram does not support Subscriptions, Profiles and certain features. Yes, good that is good. So where can I find another version with all the features?

I searched their entire website and social media pages but found nothing. Not even a beta program. Well, according to my usage, it seems to be in beta. It crashes after continuous use and even when opening many links. Also, there are many missing features.

The feature that I think this application must have is export. A way to export user sessions and content to PC or other applications. Or maybe they can sync the information with their website.

So, will you research your topics on Tangram?

First, it’s a great concept. Something never discovered before. And secondly Yes, from my side I will use Tangram to research topics. We here at Guiding Tech research topics every day to provide you with the best content. This application can be useful for us. (However, we do expect features like Subscriptions and Activity Profiles to collaborate.)

So Tangram is a smart and powerful Android app for proficient users. However, is it smart enough to meet your research needs? Let us know in our forums.
