Starting with iPadOS 15 and macOS Monterey, Apple Notes has received ‘Hot Corners’ support. So hovering the cursor in the bottom left corner of the screen will bring up Quick Notes. However, this can be quite distracting for many people. Thankfully, you can turn off the Hot Corners option for Quick Notes on Mac and iPad.
We will also show you how to customize the quick note corner using other operating system functions. Without further ado, let’s get started.
Turn off Quick Notes Corner on iPad
When you hover over your Apple Pencil or your finger in the bottom-right corner of your iPad, you’ll see a pop-up asking to open and take a quick note. Notes are saved in a dedicated Quick Notes section in Apple Notes.
Quick Note Shortcuts comes with all the necessary editing options. But it’s all irrelevant when you’ve invested in Apple Notes competitors like OneNote, Evernote, or Bear note.
Follow the steps below and turn off the quick note corner on iPad so that this gesture never bothers you again during daily use of the device.
Step 1: Open Settings on iPad.
Step 2: Go to the Apple Pencil menu. (Although you don’t have an Apple Pencil to use with your iPad, you’ll find a similar option in the Settings menu.)
Step 3: Find Pencil Gestures from the list.
Step 4: Go to Swipe right corner and turn it off from the following menu.
This will completely turn off the quick note corner on iPad. The Mac’s quick notes corner is even more annoying when you frequently hover the mouse pointer in the bottom right corner. Please disable it on Mac.
Disable Quick Note Corner on Mac
Since macOS has a completely different Settings menu and doesn’t support Apple Pencil, the steps are different than turning off the quick note corner.
Step 1: Click the Apple icon in the upper right corner of the menu bar.
Step 2: Open the System Preferences menu.
Step 3: Go to Desktop & Screen Saver.
Step 4: Select Hot Corners in the bottom right corner.
Step 5: You will see the bottom right corner assigned to the Quick Notes function on Mac. Click it.
Step 6: You will notice a series of customization options appear. Select the last option identified as ‘-‘ and press OK.
From now on, you won’t be bothered by the quick note corner on Mac anymore. Try hovering the cursor over the bottom right corner and that won’t open a quick note.
Customize Quick Notes Corner on iPad
If you don’t like the quick notes corner in the bottom right corner, you can also customize it. You can place it in a different angle or use the quick note corner gesture for some other function.
Step 1: Go to Settings on your iPad and open the Apple Pencil menu.
Step 2: From the Pencil Gestures menu, find Swipe right and you can select Screenshot.
You can go to Swipe left corner and disable it or assign it with quick note function. We use Right Corner Swipe on iPad to take screenshot.
Well, you can always use a combination of the power button and the volume down button, but on a large device like the iPad, this is not a convenient method of taking screenshots.
Unfortunately, iPadOS is limited to only two functions for using corner gestures. There’s no way to open apps, launch the Notifications menu, or assign gestures to another note-taking app on the device. We hope to see Apple improvise here in future updates.
Customize Quick Notes Corner on Mac
macOS is pretty customizable here. You have a bunch of options to choose from instead of Quick Notes. What is more? You can use other corners of your Mac and assign different functions there. This is the way.
Step 1: Use the Command + Space combination and open the Spotlight Search menu.
Step 2: Search for System Preferences and press the Back key.
Step 3: Go to Desktop & Screen Saver menu and click Hit Corners at the bottom.
Step 4: You will see four active corners. Click on any of them and see some options for using corners.
You can Start/Disable Screensaver, open Mission Control, Windows Applications, show Desktop, open Notification Center, etc.
For instance, you can use ‘Put display to sleep’ as one of the options.
Turn off Quick Notes on iPad and Mac
While Quick Note is a welcome add-on for Apple Notes users, others may find it irrelevant to their workflow. You can disable it or replace it with some other functionality on iPad and Mac.
