Check for macOS Updates
Before we get started with the features, we recommend updating the version of macOS on your Mac because the feature is available with macOS Catalina, Big Sur, and Monterey. Apple started offering two options for customizing the mouse pointer when it released macOS Catalina. But with the launch of macOS Monterey, more options for customizing the mouse pointer have appeared.
So, in case you are using a version below macOS Catalina or macOS Monterey, we recommend updating macOS. This is the way.
Step 1: Click on the Apple icon in the top left corner.
Step 2: Select About This Mac from the drop-down menu.
Step 3: Click on Software Update.
Install updates if available.
Alternatively, you can check for updates using the following steps.
Step 1: Press Cmd + Spacebar, type System Preferences and press Back.
Step 2: In the System Preferences menu, click Software Update.
In case your system does not support macOS Catalina, you will not be able to have customization options for the mouse pointer.

Shake the mouse pointer to locate
Recent updates turn the mouse pointer black and make it difficult to position the cursor. It’s more difficult if you’re using a Mac with a larger screen and your Home screen has a lot of file and folder icons. Here’s how to check if it’s enabled. This feature is available on macOS Monterey, Catalina, and Big Sur.
Step 1: Click the System Preferences app icon to launch it.
Step 2: Click Accessibility.
Step 3: Select Display from the menu on the left.
Step 4: In the Settings window displayed, click the Cursor tab.
Step 5: Click the checkbox next to ‘Shake mouse pointer to position.’
After enabling this option, you can point the mouse by quickly moving your finger back and forth on the trackpad. If you’re using an iMac, just move the Magic Mouse back and forth.
2. Resize the cursor
If you think the pointer size is too small, especially when you’re using a Mac with a large screen, it’s natural to increase its size. In addition, the larger mouse pointer size makes it easier for other users to use the Mac, such as grandparents. Besides, it is convenient to position the cursor while working on different applications or browsing the web.
This is how you can resize the mouse pointer.

Change cursor border color
Mouse pointer has new customization options with macOS Monterey. For starters, you can change the cursor outline and match it to the accent color on your Mac. Here’s how to do it.
Step 1: Click the Apple menu icon in the top left corner.
Step 2: Select System Preferences.
Step 3: Select Accessibility.
Step 4: Select Display from the menu on the left.
Step 5: Select the Cursor tab.
Step 6: Click the white stripe next to the Cursor Outline Color option.
Step 7: Select the cursor color of your choice from the color wheel.
Step 8: Close the color wheel to see the change.
4. Change the cursor fill color
You can also change the color of the pointer to make it easier to spot on the screen. There is also an option to play with the Cursor Fill Color. Follow these steps.
Step 1: Open the Accessibility window in System Preferences as shown in the preview. Go to the Cursor tab. Check the ‘Cursor Fill Color’ option on it.
Step 2: Click on the black strip to open the color wheel.
Step 3: Select a relevant color from the color wheel and close the tab.
This is a good way to make sure the cursor matches your background image or doesn’t randomly disappear. You can mix and match contours and fills according to your choice.
5. Reset mouse pointer settings
There’s a reason why these changes are personalized. You may not want others to use your system within minutes of seeing them. Or if you get bored and want the cursor to appear the normal way, then you can delete all the changes.
There is a Reset button on the Cursor tab in the Display preferences of Accessibility (refer to the steps above). Click the Reset button to clear all your previous cursor preferences. After that, the mouse pointer will return to black as usual.
