Video call usage is on the rise. Nearly every company and other person uses Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Google Meet. Like the GuidingTech team, if you or your company prefer Google Meet, you can improve the extension experience. The Google Meet Chromium extension allows users to add Whiteboards, generate attendance reports and more without breaking a sweat.
If you regularly attend paid Google Meet webinars or host meetups with a large group, you can use the Google Meet extension to generate attendance reports in Google Sheets. This method helps you keep track of all users attending a Google Meet call.
Use the Google Meet widget
As mentioned earlier, you can power up your Google Meet experience with a number of functions by using the Google Meet extension. We will cover three Google Meet extensions that allow you to generate attendance reports quickly. Let’s get started with the Meet Meet widget.
1. Meet and attend
These extensions are based on Chromium. Which means they will work with the Chrome browser and other Chromium browsers like Microsoft Edge, Opera, Brave and Vivaldi. Now follow the steps below to set up and use the Meet Meet extension.
Step 1: Open the Chrome browser and visit the Chrome Web Store on the web.
Step 2: Search for Join Meet and download the browser extension.
Step 3: You will notice a small extension icon in the menu bar of your browser, notifying the installation is successful.
Step 4: Go to Google Meet on the web and start your regular meeting.
Step 5: Once everyone has joined the Meet webinar, you can tap the Meeting Details tab.
The following menu displays several options for generating attendance reports of attendees. Features include creating a new Spreadsheet, turning off the Attendance collection, automatically scrolling through participants, and taking attendance snapshots.
The extension also comes with a Premium version and allows you to compare your class listings with those of Meet participants. You can see who is absent this time compared to the last meeting. The premium version costs $2.50 per month.
2. Google Meet Attendance Collector
As the name suggests, this allows you to download a list of attendees present in a Meet session at a specific time. Follow the steps below to set it up.
Step 1: Go to the Chrome Web Store and download the Google Meet Attendance Collector using the link below.
Step 2: After successful installation, you will find the extension in the menu bar.
Next time you’re in the middle of Google Meet and want to get attendance reports, click the extension.
You will have the option to Rescan the Google Meet listing and download the .csv file to your device from the following menu.
After the download is successful, just open the file and you will see the date, time, and number of members named in the Excel spreadsheet.
3. Attend Google Meet
The process of downloading and installing the extension remains the same as above. The Google Meet Attendance Extension is for teachers who have to quickly transition to online classes and need a simple way to take attendance in Google Meet. When you start Meet, you can enter an expected list of invitees, and the extension will automatically detect who joined the call and how long they stayed. You can save multiple class lists (shared with all your devices).
The extension records details such as students attended, arrival time and length of stay. All that information will appear in a neat HTML report.
Uninstall Chrome Extensions
Once everything is back to normal, you won’t need to install these extensions on your browser anymore. Follow the steps below to uninstall unrelated Chrome extensions.
Step 1: Open Google Chrome browser on your Windows or Mac device.
Step 2: Tap the three-dot menu in the upper right corner and go to Settings.
Step 3: You will find Extensions in the left sidebar. Touch it.
Step 4: It will open a separate Extensions menu in a new tab. Here you will see all the installed extensions on your browser.
Step 5: There are two options for you. You can disable the extension or remove it from the browser.
If you need the extension to use it later, you can disable it from the menu. It will hide the extension from the browser’s menu bar but will still be accessible from the extension menu.
Tap the Remove option to completely remove the extension from the browser.
Alternatively, you can also right-click (or two-finger click if using a trackpad) on the Chrome menu bar extension and select Remove from Chrome.
Use Google Meet like a pro
Check out the extensions above and start taking attendance in Google Meet. Once you’re done using an extension, you can and should remove it from your browser.
