How to Connect to an FTP Server through Macfusion – Guiding Tech

Handling FTP can sometimes be a bit difficult. Whether it’s backing up data (Windows users may want to try GoodSync for data backup) or accessing files within a website, this is often unavoidable. Fortunately, Mac users now have an easy method to access an FTP server right in the Finder. (Windows users can also access it through Explorer.)

1. Download and run MacFUSE

First of all, you need to download MacFUSE. This will add a MacFUSE entry to your Preferences Pane and allow you to read/write NTFS files and folders from OS X. It is very valuable for Boot Camp users. (If you don’t want to reboot to access Windows, try using Virtualbox.)

Enter your information in the respective fields. You can leave the Path field blank.

This dialog box will pop up. Click Allow to continue.

Here’s the fun part: to access your drive, you have to Mount it through Macfusion. It’s basically treated as a Network drive and is now accessible through the Finder.

Try it out! Right click on it and select Reveal.

The Finder window will pop up. Just double-click explore the drive like you would normally use Finder. It’s definitely another way to navigate through your FTP server: I find navigating this way more natural than in Filezilla, which by comparison seems a bit less complicated.

MacFUSE can now be used not only to access NTFS files, but also to access FTP servers right from the Finder. If you’re tired of the Filezilla interface or want more frequent access to your FTP files, check out MacFUSE and Macfusion. Enjoy! ????
