How to Adjust Touch Sensitivity on Apple TV Siri Remote

When I first set up my new fourth-generation Apple TV with the Siri remote, I was surprised to find that I didn’t find the built-in trackpad as intuitive as I thought it would be. It works fine, but I don’t like the way it scrolls through objects on my television screen. Sometimes it feels a bit laggy and other times it flips through items too quickly.

After digging around, I discovered that there is a way to adjust your touch sensitivity on the Siri control so that scrolling and swiping works more efficiently at your own pace. Not only that, Apple seems to be planning to release an update soon to improve scrolling on Apple TV. It will be available in tvOS 9.1, so stay tuned.

For now, here’s how to adjust the touch sensitivity of the Siri remote using the on-screen settings.

Adjust Siri Remote’s touch sensitivity

On the Apple TV Home screen, open Setting application.

Swipe down to Remote controls and devices and select it from the menu options.

The first option you will see here is Tap Surface Tracking. On the right you will see that by default it is set to medium. Click here to display fast, medium, or slow options.

For example, if you choose fast you should notice on the Home screen (and throughout your use of Apple TV) that a horizontal swipe moves you further on the screen. If you choose slowyou’ll find that one swipe doesn’t move too far.

Since I felt the touchpad could move faster, I set mine to fast but feel free to choose whatever you like. Play around with the three options until you are satisfied with one of them. Remember to test games as changes may affect the experience.

inside Remote controls and devices of the Apple TV section, you’ll also see options to pair other devices like Bluetooth And Get to know the device. This is because Apple allows you to pair third-party remotes that work with the Apple TV.

While it’s currently unavailable as the fourth-generation Apple TV is brand new, the upcoming remote will presumably feature a similar trackpad. If you’re really unsatisfied with your Siri remote and how it responds to your touches, you might consider purchasing a replacement third-party remote when they’re available.
