How long will Black Myth: Wukong be?

When it comes to the most anticipated action RPGs of 2024, Black Myth: Wukong is topping many a list – and for good reason. The Chinese mythology-inspired setting, focused narrative on Wukong’s journey, and aspects of the Soulslike subgenre give it a unique flavour in today’s video game landscape.

If you’re curious how long you can feasibly spend in the world of Black Myth, here’s what we know about the game length prior to release.

How long will Black Myth: Wukong be?

In an interview with IGN back in 2020, Producer and Creative Designer Feng Ji stated that players will “probably need at least 15 hours of playtime” to complete the game.

Feng didn’t discuss playtime further, but based on the qualifying phrase “at least”, I’d expect this to be a rough estimate for players who mainline the story and don’t engage with optional content.

You can extrapolate this figure to make estimates on the playtime for those who take the time to explore more and discover side areas and bosses, which I’d assume is more likely to be around 20–30 hours.

With New Game Plus confirmed along with three different endings based on your actions in the game, finding all the content there is could well double that figure and even reach the better part of 100 hours.

It’s worth noting that this interview is nearly four years old now, so the game’s scope could have expanded in that time. However, we know the game isn’t an open world, with a more linear and focused path for players to take; think the difference between Dark Souls and Elden Ring.

I’ll come back and provide more concrete numbers in this guide once we get access to the game ourselves and gain a better idea of how long the experience is.
