She made her acting debut in two Wonder Years episodes, went on to play major roles in a number of network television movies, and was a regular on two popular prime-time soap operas: the critically acclaimed Melrose Place and the brief-lived Malibu Shores.

Since 1989, Azaria has provided the voices of numerous characters in the animated sitcom The Simpsons, including Chief Wiggum, Moe Szyslak, Comic Book Guy, Snake Jailbird, and, in the past, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, Lou, Carl Carlson, and Bumblebee Man.
After joining the show as a regular in its second season, he rose to fame. He has received six Primetime Emmys, an Annie Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for his performance.

He provided the voice of The Mighty Sven in Happy Feet Two later that year. In Mack & Moxy, Azaria plays Shelfish Sheldon’s voice. In the 2016 film Bordertown, he also provides the voice of Bud Buckwald, the Texan border agent who serves as the main character.
Azaria is a Democratic Party supporter. He has admitted that if he hadn’t become an actor, he would have become a therapist and that he loves Elvis Costello’s music.
