Ghostrunner 2 Avatar boss strategy & how to beat

The Avatar boss in Ghostrunner 2 is a little different from the other big fights in the game, so taking a look at the strategy and how to beat them is vital if you want to continue through the story.

A big addition to Ghostrunner 2 is the increased amount of boss battles, with the game featuring a team of enemy ghostrunners that you’ll fight throughout the story. These will test you on the skills and mechanics you pick up on missions, and make for difficult fights due to the one-hit kill nature of the game.

If you don’t want to die constantly during the Ghostrunner 2 Avatar boss fight, check out how to beat them below.

How to defeat Avatar in Ghostrunner 2

To defeat Avatar in Ghostrunner 2, you’ll need to reduce the total health bar by killing the various avatar security clones around the boss arena. This boss fight comes in four phases, forcing you to change up how you go about defeating Avatar slightly each time.

Phase one

For the start of the Avatar fight, you’ll enter into a portal that takes you to the combat area. It’s essentially a square-shaped arena, with platforms around the edge, and various security clones situated on them.

For this part, you’ll need to defeat the security clones around the arena, so you can progress to the second phase. If you approach a clone, it will teleport away to a clear platform, so you will need to use the portals to teleport behind them and strike them down.

Each portal will teleport you over to the opposite platform, so you can see which portals to use when trying to defeat the security clones. After you’ve killed enough clones, the floor will give way and the second phase will get underway.

Phase two

In the second phase of the Ghostrunner 2 Avatar fight, some of the platforms will be removed, stopping you from jumping across them. Instead, you will need to fall into the portal in the middle of the arena, and then aim for a platform while you’re falling.

Much like the previous phase, you’ll want to focus on killing the security clones here. Once again, the best way to kill them is to get behind them by using the portals, but can also land on them and kill them if you’re quick enough.

With fewer overall clones to deal with, and thus fewer projectiles to dodge, this phase is arguably easier than the first and shouldn’t take long.

Phase three

Once the Avatar HP bar hits 50%, the third phase of the fight will begin. The remaining security clones will now float in the middle of the arena, making them slightly trickier to kill.

You can either use a shuriken to immobilise them and then grapple up directly to strike them or use the portal in the middle of the arena to land on them from above and strike them as you’re falling.

After killing the clones once more, the fourth and final phase of the fight will begin.

Phase four

The fourth phase of the Ghostrunner 2 Avatar fight isn’t combat-based and instead consists of some lengthy platforming sections where you need to dodge attacks from the Avatar and hack the environment to create paths you can use.

You’ll likely die a lot of times during this as you learn the patterns of the attacks and the route you need to take, but as you repeat it, your muscle memory should get better. Once you reach the Avatar’s eye, the fight will finally end.

That’s our full explanation of the Ghostrunner 2 Avatar boss strategy, and now you know how to beat them and continue on your mission.
