Google finally dropped the cover of Android L during the 2014 Google I/O keynote. Unlike previous Android releases, L is only available as a Developer Preview. on Nexus 5 and 7. The public release will be available this fall.
The biggest change in Android L is the visuals. Google is calling its new design language Material Design and is using a lot of fancy and complex terms to describe something simple.
Elements in Android L will have a sense of space. You will know where they come from and where they are going. There will be layers, one element on top of the other. Floating elements will be clearly marked with a drop shadow. Android is also following the path of iOS 7 and using a minimalist approach with bright colors. I’m not really a fan of overused transitions and animations but overall the L release looks nice.
Will your phone receive it?
Even if your device manufacturer updates your phone with Android L later this year, it will be repainted with their own look and feel. Very few people will use Android L the way it is now.
While we wait for that to happen, let’s at least play with some Android L features.
1. Install Android Keyboard ERROR
Android L brings the biggest change to the keyboard in years. Now there is an easy way to install the keyboard as an app from the Google Play Store and you don’t even need to be rooted.
After downloading the app (UPDATE: This app is no longer available. Use the official Google Keyboard app instead.), follow the instructions provided by the app to enable the keyboard. They are as follows.
Step 1: Enable Android L keyboard from Setting.
Step 2: Switch from current keyboard to Android L keyboard.
Step 3: Customize more languages if you like.
Android L keyboard is now enabled. If personalized text suggestions don’t work for you, just turn them off and back on again from Keyboard settings.
2. Android Wallpaper
All wallpapers included in the Developer Preview are available for download from one location. This includes the default wallpaper for Android L.
3. Root: Flashing new fonts
Google has decided to give Android’s default font – Roboto, a bit of an improvement for the L release. The change isn’t huge, and on phones it’s not even noticeable (unless you’re a designer). ). It has been updated to look better on larger screens. So if you have a tablet or a desktop computer, you’re better off using it.

4. Root: Flashing Boot Animation
Another subtle upgrade to Android is the new logo. It’s a white lowercase logo. Keeping up with the Android L design language, it’s also minimalistic and beautiful.
Currently, the boot animation has been tested for 720p and 480p screens. Two versions are available – 30fps and 15. If 30fps doesn’t work for you, try 15.
The process of flashing the boot animation is the same as flashing any other zip file.
