Everything about Call of Duty Black Ops 6 we know so far, from setting to developers

The announcement of a new Call of Duty game always brings excitement, and Black Ops 6 sees us return to historical warfare, with a strong espionage slant once more.

While we only know the introductory details at this point in time, there are still plenty of hints surrounding the setting, developers, and more that can be explored – giving fans plenty to look forward to ahead of the game’s launch.

Do we know the setting of Black Ops 6?

While it hasn’t been officially confirmed by Activision, it is heavily implied that the next Call of Duty title will be set during the Gulf War period, following on from the Cold War and futuristic locales of past Black Ops titles.

This is indicated by the ‘GULF’ that you can see within the key art that the official Call of Duty X (formerly Twitter) account has set as their header image, as reported by CharlieIntel.

If you’re unaware, the Gulf War was a conflict between the United States and Iraq that occurred between 1990 and 1991, triggered by the latter’s invasion of neighbouring Kuwait.

Who is developing Black Ops 6?

Once again there has been no official communication of the game’s developers, but we can confidently infer that both Treyarch and Raven Software are leading the project.

It’s unsurprising and expected to see Treyarch attached to a new game in the Black Ops series as it has been at the forefront of all five previous entries. However, it appears that Raven Software is joining Treyarch once more, mirroring the structure that Black Ops Cold War followed.

This has been indicated by posts on X from both developers, quoting the announcement from the official Call of Duty account. Treyarch’s post used a gif from John Wick 4 that states “Yeah, I’m thinking I’m back,” which was then quoted again by Raven with another gif from the same film, stating “So it begins.”

Are there any trailers?

The only ‘trailer’ so far for Black Ops 6 is the initial “wake up (rushmore) #thetruthlies” teaser.

This video shows body cam-style footage of two people at night in a mountainous landscape, which is eventually revealed to be Mount Rushmore. The four faces covered are with blindfolds, spelling out ‘The Truth Lies’ and then what we now know to be the Black Ops 6 Cerberus logo.

Additionally, it has now been officially confirmed that there will be a Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct following the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9, 2024, so I’ll update you with all of the new information when that drops.

What platforms will Black Ops 6 be on?

No platforms have been officially confirmed, but it is safe to assume that the game will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

It is unclear still whether this will be the first Call of Duty title to launch exclusively on current generation platforms, as Modern Warfare 3 still gave PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players the chance to jump on.

Furthermore, the Wall Street Journal has reported that the next Call of Duty title – which we now know to be Black Ops 6 – will reportedly be coming to Xbox Game Pass at release, but this is still conjecture and yet to be officially confirmed by Activision or Microsoft.
