Longoria participated in baseball with the Long Beach State University team, won the 2005 Cape Cod League MVP award from CSN Bay Area, and was recognized as the 2006 Big West Conference Co-Player of the Year.

The Rays selected him with the third overall choice in the first round of the 2006 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut with the Rays in 2008 after spending two seasons in the minors. He was also selected for the American League side in the 2008 MLB All-Star Game.

The news that Longoria will miss Opening Day and be sidelined for six weeks due to surgery to repair a damaged ligament in his finger was made public on March 30, 2022.

He batted.244/.315/.451 with the Giants in 2022, including a 24-at-bat stint with AAA Sacramento during which he hit.333, and had 14 home runs and 42 RBIs in 266 at-bats. He played third base in 68 games for the Giants and DH in 17.

Longoria initially became a free agent on November 10, 2022, when the Giants declined their $13 million contract option on him.

Longoria agreed to a $4 million, one-year deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks on January 5, 2023. By hitting a home run against Taj Bradley of the Tampa Bay Rays on June 27, Longoria earned the honor of having done so.
