Dan Ashworth career
From 1987 to 1989, Ashworth attended the College of West Anglia. Following his stint at Norwich City’s academy, Ashworth signed with non-league Eastbourne Town, where he played 21 games and scored four goals before transferring to St. Leonards.
After coaching West Florida Fury for a while, Ashworth later traveled to the United States and then returned to England to play for Wisbech Town. In the fall of 2000, Ashworth departed Wisbech due to financial issues that the club was experiencing.

It was officially announced in February 2022 that Ashworth has consented to become a Sporting Director at Newcastle United, a Premier League team.
It was reported in February 2024 that Manchester United had expressed interest in appointing Ashworth as their sports director.
English media outlets claim that Ashworth informed Newcastle’s management of his desire to join Manchester United and was put on leave prior to the start of official talks between the two teams.
Newcastle announced his departure from the team on February 19 and he has since started a gardening leave.
