Bruce Springsteen (born September 23, 1949) is a rock singer, songwriter, and guitarist from the United States. He has been dubbed “The Boss” and has recorded 21 studio albums throughout his six-decade career, the majority of which involve his backup band, the E Street Band.
Springsteen is the father of heartland rock, a genre that combines mainstream rock music with poetic and socially concerned lyrics about working-class American life. He is well-known for his vivid lyrics and frenetic shows that sometimes last up to four hours.
Who is Bruce Springsteen married to?
Bruce Springsteen has had a couple of relationships with several women.
In the early 1980s, Springsteen dated actress Joyce Hyser for four years. He previously dated model Karen Darvin and photographer Lynn Goldsmith. He met Patti Scialfa in the early 1980s at The Stone Pony pub in New Jersey, where she was performing with his buddy Bobby Bandiera, with whom she had written ‘At Least We Got Shoes’ for Southside Johnny. Springsteen was taken by her singing and approached her after the show. They quickly became buddies after spending time together.
Springsteen recruited Scialfa to join the E Street Band for the impending Born in the USA Tour in early 1984. According to Peter Ames Carlin’s book Bruce, they appeared to be a couple during the first leg of the tour; however, Springsteen met actress Julianne Phillips and married her shortly after midnight on May 13, 1985, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Oswego, Oregon. The two were polar opposites in the background, with an 11-year age difference, and Springsteen’s traveling put a toll on their relationship. Many of the songs on Tunnel of Love were written to express his dissatisfaction with his relationship with Phillips.
Springsteen encouraged Scialfa to rejoin the Tunnel of Love Express Tour in late February 1988. She was first hesitant since she wanted to begin recording her first solo album, but when he promised her the tour would be brief, she agreed to postpone her solo record and join the tour.
Phillips and Springsteen divorced in the spring of 1988, but the news was kept quiet. Springsteen and Scialfa met on the Tunnel of Love Express Tour and began living together shortly after his divorce from Phillips. Phillips filed for divorce in Los Angeles on August 30, 1988, and a settlement was agreed in December and finalized on March 1, 1989.
However, they had no children.
