Zac Posen is a $10 million net-worth American fashion designer. Zac Posen is well known for his now-defunct eponymous fashion label, which was a favorite of many celebrities. From 2014 to 2020, he was also the creative director of the high-end luxury fashion company Brooks Brothers. Zac Posen was born in New York City on October 24, 1980, to Jewish parents Susan, a corporate lawyer, and Stephen, an artist. His ancestors are from Belarus and Poland. Posen, who w as interested in fashion design from a young age, would take yarmulkes from his grandparents’ synagogue to make ball gowns for dolls. He attended Saint Ann’s School, an elite school in Brooklyn, and interned for fashion designer Nicole Miller during his sophomore year.

Posen attended the Parsons School of Design as a pre-college student when he was 16 years old. After graduating from Saint Ann’s in 1999, he proceeded to the United Kingdom to study womenswear design at Central Saint Martins at the University of the Arts London.

When supermodel Naomi Campbell wore one of Zac’s gowns in 2000, he was 21 years old and still living with his parents and getting an allowance. In 2001, he held his debut runway show and was quickly courted by all of the top fashion houses, including LVMH, Gucci, and Christian Dior.Sean John of Diddy invested in Posen’s private label in 2004. In 2008, he designed a collection for Target that was sold in 75 shops worldwide.

Posen produced a dress for model Naomi Campbell while studying in London in 2000, which ended up in the hands of numerous industry insiders, garnering him many connections. He met his future publicist and event producer Ed Filipowski through Ingrid Sischy, the editor-in-chief of Interview magazine at the time, who promised to represent him for free.

Posen returned to New York in 2001 and established a makeshift atelier in his parents’ living room. Later that year, he was chosen to showcase a capsule collection as part of GenArt’s exhibit “Fresh Faces in Fashion,” for which he received a $20,000 grant. Many celebrities, including Glenn Close at the 2012 Academy Awards, Reese Witherspoon and Naomi Watts at the 2013 Golden Globes, and Rita Ora at the 2014 AMA Awards, have worn his designs on the red carpet.

Posen has launched various cheap, ready-to-wear lines in addition to premium fashion. In 2008, he collaborated with Target to produce Zac Posen for Target, a capsule collection sold in 75 Australian stores.

Later, in early 2014, he collaborated with another company, David’s Bridal, to launch Truly Zac Posen, a line of low-cost bridal gowns. It was his very first bridal collection. Posen also updated the outfits for Delta Air Lines employees, from flight attendants to customer service representatives.

In late 2019, the fashion brand owners of Zac Posen’s companies, House of Z and Z Spoke, stated that all business operations would be suspended immediately. As a result, Zac Posen’s label was shut down immediately.

Posen has dabbled in several ventures aside from his namesake fashion line. He was named creative director of the premium fashion business Brooks Brothers in 2014, where he worked to revamp the company’s hallmark women’s clothes and accessories line. Posen worked at Brooks Brothers until 2020 when he was replaced by Michael Bastian.

Posen was an official judge on the reality television competition series “Project Runway” from 2013 to 2017, covering seasons 11 through 16. In seasons three and four, he served as a guest judge. Posen published a 288-page cookbook with 100 dishes in 2017.
