Tuberville went on to coach football at Hermitage High School after graduating from Southern Arkansas University. He spent two years as an assistant coach and two years as a head coach before moving on to Arkansas State University, where he served as an assistant football coach from 1980 to 1984.
In 1986, he started working as a graduate assistant at the University of Miami. In 1993, he took over as defensive coordinator for the Miami Hurricanes football team. Coach Tuberville became a member of the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 2008. That same year, he joined ESPN and ESPNU as a studio analyst. Coach Tuberville took over as head football coach at Texas Tech University in 2010. He took over as head coach of the University of Cincinnati in 2012, and in his second season, the team won the American Athletic Conference Championship. Tuberville retired in 2016 as one of the 50 most successful football coaches in history. He later went on to work as a full-time broadcaster for ESPN.
