Last Time I Saw You is an upcoming 2D game that’s set in the 1980s – and if you’re a fan of games like Life is Strange (as I am), this is definitely one to keep on your radar.
Having been developed by Maboroshi Artworks since 2018, and published by Chorus Worldwide Games (who brought Coffee Talk and its sequel, Hibiscus and Butterfly, to consoles) it’s set to be a narrative-focused tale set against a hand-drawn art style.
What is Last Time I Saw You?
Set to launch in Autumn 2024, Last Time I Saw You is a coming-of-age tale, where players control Ayumi in late-80s Japan, who has been dreaming about a girl that he’s never actually met.
During a press event, Creative Director Juan Fandiño said that it focuses on realistic characters with everyday problems – but there’s a fantastical element that’s seen as a normal and accepted occurrence within the world too.
The game’s Steam Page mentions that players will “meet an eclectic cast of characters inspired by Japanese mythology” like Ayumi’s school friends to samurai crows, and take part in all manner of puzzles and side quests.

Interestingly, also during the press event, I was told that the game is linear for the most part, but there are “a couple of important NPCs whose outcomes will be somewhat different depending on the actions you take”.
Do we know what platforms it’ll be on?
Last Time I Saw You will be coming to multiple platforms, available on Nintendo Switch, PC (via Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.

Are there any trailers for Last Time I Saw You?
There’s a handful of different trailers available to check out, the first of which arrived in 2022 as an Announcement Trailer. In it, we see Ayumi and the previously mentioned person that he’s dreaming about, a cute Shiba Inu and a look into the lovely art style.
The next trailer came in November 2022, with the short 42-second clip showing off the person in Ayumi’s dreams once more, with some on-screen text mentioning “a first love and a terrible curse”.
The most recent of the three trailers for Last Time I Saw You came in January 2024, over a year later, showing off its gameplay. With Ayumi running through forests, dashing across ledges in a ball of light, and thwarting shadows with a baseball bat, the musical score also seems like it’ll be an absolute treat.
