Will Starfield have romance options?

It has been confirmed that Starfield will have romance options, which is excellent news if you’re a fan of coupling up with your favourite characters in a game.
In an interview on the Lex Fridman Podcast, Starfield’s director Todd Howard previously gave a few details on what to expect for the game’s romantic escapades.
According to Howard, while there are a vast number of standard companions in the game, there are currently four companions that offer ‘more complex relationships’ than any previous Bethesda game.
What this actually boils down to is a number of things, but one of the key features appears to be a move away from a binary like or dislike system that can leave NPCs feeling a bit hollow. Howard remarks that these romanceable NPCs will afford complexities like still being in love with you but frustrated at something that you have done.
The overall ethos appears to be allowing players to feel a connection to the characters they meet, and become proud of the relationships that they carve within Starfield. Instead of it just being a bar that fills up or decreases linearly, Starfield should hopefully feel more dynamic, responsive, and reflective of the relationship as a whole.

While we do not know the full extent of the NPC relationships in Starfield, there are a few names that have been confirmed as romanceable so far. Here are all of the NPC relationships that we know of right now in Starfield:

- Sam Coe
- Sarah Morgan
As you might have gathered, these are the three of the companions in Starfield that we are aware of so far.
It was revealed in the Starfield Direct that ‘some friendships might eventually blossom into romance’, detailing that the companions themselves will be among the NPC relationships available to the player.
It has not yet been confirmed that romance options will exist beyond these companions, but with the mention of recruitable crew members throughout the world, we could see a number of different relationships crop up in the vast solar system.
