All age-restricted Fortnite Skins affected by age & content ratings

In an effort to make Fortnite more family-friendly, Epic Games has introduced sweeping age and content ratings. A casualty of the age and content ratings is cosmetics because now, a chunk of Skins and their accessories are considered unsuitable for the eyes of kids who play Fortnite. This primer details all the age-restricted Skins affected by the game’s new age and content ratings and what these ratings mean for your Outfits.

These Skins all share a common theme in that they either feature guns or other forms of weaponry as an accessory on the Outfit or the Skin was deemed inappropriate for experiences with E or E10+ (or regionally equivalent) game ratings. Generally, if the Skin doesn’t exhibit some type of weapon, it’s probably restricted because its appearance could frighten the younger demographic of Fortnite players.

Other cosmetics like Pickaxes and Gliders are age-restricted, too, but this list exclusively catalogues the Skins. If you’re unsure whether your items fall under the age-restricted umbrella, check your Locker for cosmetics flagged with a caution icon indicating that they cannot be equipped inside islands below a certain rating.

What happens if I use an age-restricted Skin?

If you equip an age-restricted Outfit and enter an experience graded below the designated rating, the Skin will appear as a default Outfit to you and everyone else on the island. However, Epic Games claims that, over the next year or so, they will lift the restrictions on these Skins and modify the Outfits to be compatible with all ratings by auto-adjusting their appearance to fit the rating of the experience you want to play.

Epic Games has acknowledged the negative feedback surrounding the introduction of age and content ratings to Fortnite, but it’s unlikely they will roll back the changes. Hopefully, Epic Games can devise a solution that allows players to use their favourite Skins in any experience they’d like, but, for now, all age-restricted Outfits can only be equipped in islands rated Teen.
