With iOS 7, Apple introduced a really cool way to
file sharing
on iOS devices is called AirDrop. With it you can share photos, videos, Sound Recordings and even Passbook tags, Map locations, Safari links, etc.
Let’s take a look at all you need to know about setting up AirDrop and sharing files with it.
Setup and Troubleshooting
Step 1: First of all, you must make sure you are signed in to iCloud. You can do it from Setting application and by entering icloud there.
Note: There are several advantages over using iCloud on your iOS device and on your Mac. You can learn how to set it up in this section.
Step 2: Open the Control Center panel on your iPhone or iOS device by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. There, make sure to enable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on the top part. Alternatively, you can activate both of these from Setting application.
Cool Tip: Can’t get into Control Center? Remember to set it correctly on Setting so you can access it from anywhere you need.
Step 3: You will see AirDrop as a section above the iOS tools on the Control Center. Tap on it and from the available options you will be able to choose whether to view Contact only or Everybody can share files with you via AirDrop.
Troubleshooting: Remember that Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are required for everyone you want to share files with when you choose either Contact only or Everybody select. However, to share only with your contacts, both you and your contacts must also be signed in to iCloud, and you must all be in each other’s Contacts list before sharing any files. .
File Sharing
As mentioned above, AirDrop allows you to send and receive many types of files on iOS devices as long as they are within Bluetooth or Wi-Fi range.
Here’s how, taking photo sharing from the Photos app as an example:
Important Note: Currently, only iPhone 5 and later, iPod Touch 5th generation, iPad 4th generation or later, and iPad mini support AirDrop.
Once AirDrop has been turned on, open the Photos app and select the photo you want to share. There, on the share screen, just below the photo you’ve selected, you’ll see the people you can share them with via AirDrop.
Tap the person you want to share your photo with, and after a few seconds, that person will get a message asking if they want to receive incoming files.
And that’s about it. Certainly not as simple as you’d expect from Apple, but once everything is set up, sharing files this way is quite convenient. So if your device is supported, make sure to try AirDrop.
