Prince Nelson died as a result of an accidental fentanyl overdose, according to the autopsy. Fentanyl, a very potent opioid, is 50 times more potent than heroin. But the question was, how did Prince gain it, and was he abusing it on purpose?
Prince did struggle with drug addiction at the time of his death, but he was not hooked to fentanyl. He was in the middle of receiving treatment for a pain drug addiction. Prince had been suffering from severe pain for many years and had been prescribed numerous drugs to help him manage it.
How was Prince Nelson buried?
Following the autopsy results, Prince’s remains were cremated. They were placed in a custom-made urn 3D-printed in the shape of the Paisley Park estate. The urn is still on exhibit in the complex’s atrium.
There was no official public funeral or tribute for the singer. His sister Tyka Nelson said that a secret gathering of Paisley Park friends and relatives met to remember him shortly after his passing. Later that year, in October 2016, there was a more formal memorial. However, neither Prince’s remains nor his living family members were there; Nelson stated on her Facebook page that one memorial service was all they could bear.

The tribute was held in Minnetonka, Minnesota, at the Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall.

Meanwhile, Prince Nelson was born in Minneapolis on June 7, 1958. He is the son of jazz singer Mattie Della and pianist and songwriter John Lewis Nelson. His four grandparents were all from Louisiana. His great-grandmother was the black nationalist Mittie Maude Lena Gordon, who founded the Ethiopian Peace Movement and called for emigration to West Africa in opposition to American white supremacy. His paternal relative was jazz musician Louis Hayes.
Prince was named after his father’s most famous stage name, Prince Rogers, which he used when performing with Prince’s mother in the Prince Rogers Trio, a jazz group.
Prince’s father told A Current Affair in 1991 that he named his son “Prince” because he wanted his son to “do everything I wanted to do.” Prince disliked his given name and preferred to be addressed as “Skipper,” a moniker that persisted with him throughout his boyhood.
Prince claimed he was “born epileptic” and suffered seizures as a child. He went on to say, ‘My mother told me one day I walked into her and said, ‘Mom, I’m not going to be sick longer,’ and she said, ‘Why?’ and I responded, ‘Because an angel told me so.’ Tyka, Prince’s younger sister, was born on May 18, 1960. Both siblings developed a strong interest in music, which their father fostered.
