Otis Redding Jr. (September 9, 1941 – December 10, 1967) was a singer and composer from the United States. He is regarded as one of the finest singer-songwriters in American popular music history, as well as a pivotal figure in soul music and rhythm & blues. Gladys Williams, a well-known Macon musician who inspired Redding, frequently performed at the Hillview Springs Social Club, and Redding occasionally played piano with her band there. Williams held Sunday talent showcases, which Redding and two friends, singers Little Willie Jones and Eddie Roswell, attended.
