Microsoft OneDrive is a popular cloud storage option for Windows. It allows you to store and synchronize data across various devices. And while the platform is available for all major operating systems, its Windows app is unfortunately not the most reliable option.
While using OneDrive, you may find OneDrive crashes. One of them is the error ‘Sorry, there is a problem with the OneDrive server’, which usually appears due to an error in the OneDrive Telemetry log. Instead of waiting for the error to go away on its own, there are a few things you can do to get rid of it.
1. Check your connection
Your first gateway of call whenever you experience server issues in OneDrive or any other online service is to check your internet connection. OneDrive may malfunction due to weak and unstable internet connection. To confirm that’s the cause of the OneDrive server error, check your internet connection.
You can do it by using internet speed test to check the reliability of internet connection. Restart your router if the results show that your connection is weak or unstable. Switching DNS servers is also an effective way to improve your connection speed.

2. Delete OneDrive Remote Logs
Telemetry logs are information collected by OneDrive to improve app usability and performance. But if this information is corrupted for any reason, you may get a ‘Sorry, there is a problem with the OneDrive server’.
To fix that, you’ll have to delete the OneDrive Telemetry records. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Press the Windows + R key combination to open the Run tool.
Step 2: Enter %localappdata% in the search bar and click OK.
Step 3: Navigate to the following location:
Microsoft/OneDrive/Setup/logs
Step 4: In the log folder, select and right-click the following files and click the Delete icon.
UserTelemetryCache.otc UserTelemetryCache.otc.session
Restart your computer and check for the problem.
3. Check OneDrive Server Status
You may get an error if the OneDrive server is under maintenance or down. You can check the OneDrive server status by visiting the Microsoft Service Health website.
There, select OneDrive from the left sidebar and check its current status. If there is any problem with the OneDrive server, it will be displayed in the Details tab along with an estimated time to resolve it.
4. Clear OneDrive cache data
Like most online apps, OneDrive stores cache data to improve user experience. However, this data can be corrupted due to sudden system shutdown or virus attack.
Corrupt OneDrive cache data can cause many problems, including the one in question. The only way to remove corruption is to clear cache data. To do that, open the Run tool, paste the following code in the search bar and press Enter:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft OneDrive\onedrive.exe/reset
5. Allow OneDrive to run through the firewall
Can you access OneDrive on the web but have server problems when launching it via its app? If so, then Windows Firewall is probably causing the problem.
The solution here is to allow OneDrive to run through Windows Firewall. You can do that by following these steps:
Step 1: Press the Windows key to open the Start Menu.
Step 2: Enter Windows Security in the search bar and press Enter.
Step 3: Select ‘Firewall & network protection’ from the left sidebar.
Step 4: Select the ‘Allow apps through firewall’ option in the Firewall & network protection window.
Step 5: Click Change settings.
Step 6: Check the Private and Public boxes for Microsoft OneDrive. Then, click OK to save the changes.
Restart your computer and check for the problem.
6. Reinstall OneDrive
If none of the fixes work, then there may be a problem with OneDrive itself. You can reinstall it as a last resort. This is the way:
Step 1: Press the Windows + I key combination to open the Settings application.
Step 2: Select Apps from the left sidebar and then select Installed Apps from the right pane.
Step 3: Click the three horizontal dots next to Microsoft OneDrive and select Uninstall.
Once the uninstall is complete, re-download OneDrive from the Microsoft Store.
Easily connect to OneDrive server
