Just because someone uses an iPhone doesn’t necessarily mean they also use a Mac. You might be using an iPhone with a Windows PC. While that’s perfectly fine, you’ll lose features like AirDrop for file transfers. It’s no surprise that transferring files between iPhone and Windows is a hassle.
Sometimes your iPhone’s files don’t show up on your PC, or worse, your computer doesn’t recognize your iPhone. If you are tired of trying different methods to connect iPhone to PC, don’t give up. Here are tried and tested ways to transfer files from iPhone to Windows PC and vice versa. They won’t let you down.

1. Use a USB cable to transfer files from iPhone to PC
This is the most basic way to transfer files between iPhone and Windows PC. Just use a good lightning cable that supports data transmission to connect your iPhone to your PC. Then, open File Explorer on Windows to navigate to your iPhone’s folder.

Use this method mainly if you want to transfer small photos or videos.
2. Transfer files from PC to iPhone using iTunes
iTunes is a piece of software developed by Apple that helps your iPhone communicate with your PC. You can use iTunes to sync iPhone data such as photos, videos, music, etc. to your PC. Here’s how to use iTunes to transfer files between iPhone and Windows PC.
Step 1: Install iTunes on your Windows PC using the link below.
Step 2: Open iTunes and connect iPhone to computer with USB cable.
Step 3: Select Allow in the prompt on your iPhone to allow the device to access your data.
Step 4: Click Trust to trust the computer. Then enter your passcode.
Step 5: Now, click Continue to allow your computer to access the information on your iPhone.
Step 6: Your iPhone content will show up in iTunes. Use the left pane to navigate to the category you want and access your files.

3. Add Server in Files App for Wireless File Transfer Between iPhone and PC
Many iPhone users may not know that the Files app on iPhone allows you to connect to a server. Using this trick, you can create a local server on your Windows PC to transfer files to and from your iPhone. It sounds complicated, but it’s quite simple. Here’s how to do it.
Set up folder sharing on Windows
Step 1: Open File Explorer on your Windows PC and create a folder that you want to move your iPhone files into.
Step 2: Now right click on that folder and select ‘Show more options.
Step 3: Click Properties.
Step 4: Navigate to the Share tab.
Step 5: Select the Share option under ‘Network folder and file sharing’.
Step 6: Click the drop-down menu and select People.
Step 7: Select Add to enable sharing the folder with everyone on the network.
Step 8: Once added, click the drop-down arrow next to Read under Provisioning and select Read/Write.
Step 9: Finally, click the Share button.
Step 10: Select the first option when prompted.
Step 12: Once the folder is shared, click Done to close the window.
Turn off password protected sharing
Once you’ve enabled folder sharing, it’s time to disable passwords to access shared folders. Here’s how to do it.
Step 1: Click the Search icon on the taskbar.
Step 2: Search Dashboard and click on the first result that appears.
Step 3: Select ‘Network and Internet.’
Step 4: Next, select the ‘Network and Sharing Center’ option at the top.
Step 5: In the left pane, click ‘Change advanced sharing settings’.
Step 6: Click the arrow next to All Networks to expand it.
Step 7: In the ‘Password protected sharing’ section, select ‘Disable password protected sharing’.
Step 8: Finally, click Save Changes.
Find your local IP address
Now it’s time to find your PC’s local IP address to enter it into the Files app on your iPhone.
Step 1: Click the Search icon on the taskbar and search cmd. Click Command Prompt to open it.
Step 2: Enter ipconfig and press Enter.
Step 3: Scroll down and you will see your PC’s local IP address listed as IPv4 Address. Record this.
Before starting this process, make sure your iPhone is connected to the same network as your PC. This is the basic requirement to access the shared folder.
Step 1: Open the Files app on your iPhone.
Step 2: Select the Browse tab at the bottom and
Step 3: Tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner and select ‘Connect to Server.’
Step 4: Enter the IPv4 address you wrote down earlier and click Connect.
Step 5: Select Guest under Connect as and then tap Next.
You can now access the shared folder on your Windows PC.
We have created a shared folder on the Desktop of a Windows PC. So, if you browse through the folders and go to the Desktop folder, you may discover the iPhone File Transfer folder we created.
Step 1: Locate the file you want to transfer to your PC.
Step 2: Once found, touch and hold the file and then select Copy.
Step 3: Now navigate to the shared folder by tapping on your IP address in the Shared tab in the Files app.
Step 4: Once you are in the folder, touch and hold an empty space and then select Paste.
The selected file will be copied.
Step 5: Open the shared folder on your Windows PC. You will see that the file has been copied. You can also access files on your computer.
Step 6: Alternatively, you can also copy files from your PC to a shared folder. You should be able to access it on your iPhone.
This is the easiest and best way to transfer files wirelessly between iPhone and Windows PC. You can also use it to transfer large files like videos without any problems. You only need to go through the setup process once and you’re done.
One thing to keep in mind, however, is that your local IPv4 address may change whenever you restart your computer or connect to a different network. So, if you can’t access the shared folder next time, enter the new IP address in the Files app if it has changed.
4. Transfer files from iPhone to Windows PC wirelessly using Cloud Storage
While this method involves some extra steps, it is a fairly simple way to transfer photos and videos from your iPhone to your PC. Sign up for a cloud storage solution like Google Drive or One Drive. Then, upload the files you want to transfer from your iPhone using the respective app.
Go to the cloud storage website on your Windows PC and download the files you want. Plus, you can sync your Apple Photos library with Google Photos and download the files you want directly from your PC.
5. Use the AirDrop alternative to transfer files between iPhone and PC
AirDrop is restricted to Apple devices. So if you won’t be able to use it to connect your iPhone to Windows. However, there are alternatives to AirDrop that work cross-platform. Snapdrop and Sharedrop are some examples of websites that allow you to transfer files from your iPhone to your Windows PC wirelessly. Here’s how you can use them.
Step 1: Connect both your iPhone and PC to the same network.
Step 2: Open Snapdrop with a browser on Windows PC as well as iPhone.
Step 3: You should now see a PC pop-up on your iPhone. Confirm that the name shown to you is the same as the name on your PC.
Step 4: If the name is the same, click on the PC icon to select the file you want to transfer.
Step 5: You will now see a prompt on your PC asking if you want to receive the file being sent. Select Save.
The selected files will be transferred to your PC. You can also reverse this process to select a file on your PC and transfer it to your iPhone.
Such services are great for transferring smaller files and photos because large files like videos take a long time to transfer.
You no longer have to frown when your friends ask you to transfer the photos you clicked on them to your Windows PC. Or, if you’re a creator who shoots a lot of video, there’s no need to bother transferring large 4K video clips to your PC anymore. Just use one of these methods and you’ll be fine.
