After using Windows-based systems for almost a decade, I ran into a few problems that made me rethink my operating system options. And when it comes to PC vs Mac comparisons, build quality is one of the many thorny issues that are often discussed. A common problem many users face on Windows 10 is flickering or flickering on the screen, which can be caused by incompatible apps or display drivers.
The problem usually starts when upgrading to Windows 10 to the latest build, but it can happen at any time. We will show you different methods to fix Windows 10 flickering screen.
First, determine exactly what is causing the screen flickering problem on your Windows 10 machine. So we will use the Task Manager app.
Use the Task Manager app
We will use the Task Manager application to determine the possible cause of the screen flickering.
Right click on the taskbar and go to the Task Manager application. Alternatively, you can open the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc simultaneously.
Remember, you don’t really need to use the Task Manager, but you do need to open it.
Now look at your screen to see if the Task Manager is blinking. If it does, along with everything else on the screen, it’s probably the display driver that’s causing the problem. On the other hand, if everything except Task Manager is flashing, then the problem could be caused by an app installed on the device.
Once you have figured out what the cause of the problem is, you can follow the steps below to fix it.
1. Remove incompatible apps
While many apps can cause screen flickering issues, you can define your search with third-party antivirus, iCloud, and IDT audio apps. You may ask why? Well, these are the apps that have been known to cause problems in the past.
Follow the steps below to uninstall these apps.
Step 1: Press the Windows key and search for Settings to open the Settings app.
Step 2: Go to System > Apps and Features.
Step 3: Select the app causing the problem.
Step 4: Select Uninstall from the following menu and confirm your decision to remove the app.
Alternatively, you can use Control Panel to uninstall shady desktop apps. Here’s how to use Control Panel to uninstall apps
Step 1: Open Control Panel and click Uninstall a program in the Programs tab.
Step 2: Select the application you want to remove.
Step 3: Click Uninstall and go through the uninstall process.
After you uninstall the apps that might be causing the problem, restart your computer and see if that fixes the problem.
2. Update Graphics Driver
Most Windows errors are related to outdated drivers that don’t work well with the latest version of Windows. Follow the steps below to update drivers on Windows 10.
Step 1: On your keyboard, press the Windows + R keyboard shortcut to launch the Run dialog box.
Step 2: Enter devmgmt.msc and press Enter.
Step 3: In the device manager, click the arrow next to it to expand Display adapters.
Step 4: Right click on your graphics card device and select Update Driver.
Step 5: Select Automatically search for updated driver software. Wait for it to search online for drivers.
Step 6: After the driver is automatically installed, you will be asked to restart your PC. Close the window and restart the computer.
3. Revert to an older driver
If the problem persists, it’s possible that the latest driver hasn’t fixed the problem. If the screen flickering occurs after updating the driver, try rolling back to an earlier version.
You can uninstall installed drivers from the Control Panel menu and download previous drivers from the AMD, Intel or NVIDIA website.
4. Update Windows 10
Since the introduction of Windows 10 in 2015, Microsoft has adopted a six-month release cycle for major operating system updates.
Screen flickering problem can be widespread due to a faulty Windows update. Thankfully, Microsoft quickly fixed the critical issue with Windows patches.
Open the settings app (press Windows Key + I or use the notification bar), go to updates and security and check for new updates. Install any new updates available for your laptop and then reboot to see if the screen flickering goes away.
5. Create a new Windows User Profile
A separate Windows user profile can help fix some annoying Windows 10 problems.
To do so, press Windows Key + I and go to Accounts > Family & others > Add someone else to this PC and follow the instructions.
