iOS 8 finally allows third-party apps to delete photos. For the past 7 years, this is something only the Photos app has been able to do. This new functionality has enabled many new applications to solve most photo management problems.
Because let’s face it, we take a lot of pictures. And most of them are crappy. From about 20 pictures you take at any given time, you will keep one, maybe two. But since there’s currently no easy way to delete photos in the Photos app, they keep piling up. And before you know it, a new iOS update arrives, claiming 6 GB of free space… and you’re scratching your head wondering where all that storage went.
But fear not, third-party apps are always here to your rescue. They will let you delete photos and screenshots from your phone easily.
1. Movies
Flic ($0.99) was one of the first apps to join the delete campaign, and it’s still one of the best. Flic is called Tinder for photos and you can see why. You get a Tinder-like UI where you are shown a stack of your photos.
You can swipe left to delete a photo and swipe right to keep it. Flic will continue to display your photos one after the other. Sure, this one-on-one approach can take time, but in the end you’ll be left with a curated collection of photos that’s much easier to manage and an iPhone with more storage than before. .
Once you’ve selected all the photos, tap the . icon Delete button to clear all. Since this is a third-party app, you need to authenticate before deleting your photos.
2. Cleanliness
Cleen looks and works suspiciously like Flic without being too similar. The premise is the same, you swipe photos to delete or keep them. Only Clean has different gestures and a less polished user interface.
In Cleen, you swipe down to send a photo to the Trash, swipe up to favorite it, and swipe left to process it later.
While Flic is a paid app, Cleen is free to use. If you don’t want to spend, Cleen will do just fine.
3. Screening
Screeny ($0.99) is one of those apps you hear about that makes you say, “finally.” For years, screenshots have plagued the lives of tech reviewers and even ordinary people. After months or years of using an iPhone, it’s not uncommon to end up with hundreds of screenshots. Screenshots after a day or two are meaningless. And they stay on your iPhone.

Screeny turns this whole thing into a process. It will scan your phone for screenshots and let you choose the ones you want to delete. The app also has filters so you can remove any screenshots older than 15 or 30 days. Tap the delete button, validate and the app will tell you how much space you saved by deleting all those screenshots.
