Method 1: Take a poll in Slack with a simple poll
The Simple Polls app is a free and easy to use third-party app that you can integrate into Slack to take polls. Here’s how to install it.
Download a simple poll in Slack
As a team member, you can download and connect apps to the Slack website or app. However, your administrator can restrict third-party app downloads without their approval. So make sure you have the necessary permissions before following the steps below.
Step 1: In the Slack app’s sidebar, click Apps. If you don’t find the option, you can click More and then select Apps.
Step 2: Search simple poll in the Slack app folder. Click the Add button in the Simple Poll.
Step 3: Click ‘Add to Slack’.
You will now be asked to authenticate with a one-time password and add some basic information regarding your workspace to Simple Poll. After you install the app, here’s how to create a poll.

Create a poll with a simple poll
After you download the app, here’s how you can create polls on any Slack channel.
Step 1: Open the channel for which you want to create a poll.
Step 2: Enter /create poll and select the option from the menu.
Step 3: In the modal window, scroll down and enter your question in the ‘Questions or Subject’ section.
Note: Click Sample Library to choose from preset poll options.
Step 4: You can choose an option for “How do you want people to respond”. You can choose a rank-based poll, a rate-based poll, or write a short piece of text.
Step 5: You can also choose to pre-populate your poll with options. Click on ‘Prefill with options’ and select the relevant ones.
Step 6: Next, scroll down and enter the details for the options. We chose a short text-based poll. Therefore, we will type out our options.
If you want more options, click ‘More options’.
Step 7: Check the ‘Allow others to add options’ box to allow others to add preferences.
Step 8: To choose how you want to display poll results, click the Show Poll Results drop-down menu and select the relevant option from Realtime, After End, and Creators Only.
Tip: To sort the results in ascending order, select Yes from the drop-down menu for ‘Sort results by most votes’.
Step 9: Once done, click Preview.
Step 10: You will see a summary of your poll. If you’re satisfied, click Create Poll. If you want to make other changes, select Back.
That’s it! The poll will be sent as a message. Team members can simply click on the desired option to vote.
By default, you can see the user’s name and their respective votes. Thankfully, there is also a feature that allows you to conduct polls anonymously.
How to do an anonymous poll in Slack
All you need to do is check the box ‘Make answers anonymous’ in step 7 from the previous section and the results will not reveal the details. This way your team members can feel more comfortable and share their opinion in the poll without hesitation or bias.
However, if you want to create a daily, weekly or monthly poll, the app also allows you to create a recurring poll. Here’s how to do it.
How to create a recurring poll using a simple poll in Slack
While creating a poll using Simple Poll, here’s how you can create a recurring poll and make sure the poll is conducted automatically during the selected time periods.
Step 1: Open the channel for which you want to create a poll.
Step 2: Enter /create poll and select the option from the menu.
Step 3: Add your poll question and answer options as usual. Once done, scroll down and click the Schedule button in front of Scheduling.
Step 4: Click the drop-down menu for the Repeat option.
Step 5: Choose your preferred interval for the poll to repeat. Once done, click Save.
Edit an existing Slack poll
If you missed any detail while creating a poll, here is how you can edit it and change settings in Simple Poll. Click the three-dot icon next to the poll and select Edit Poll.
Now a modal window will appear where you can modify the poll settings. Make the necessary changes and click Save.

Method 2: Take a poll with emojis in Slack
As mentioned earlier, you can’t integrate third-party apps into a Slack workspace if your admin has restricted app installation without their approval. If so, you can simply create an emoji poll on Slack. This is the way.
Step 1: Open the channel you want to poll. Enter your question.
Step 2: Use the blockquote format to ensure a clear distinction between the question and the answer options.
Step 3: Enter all the options for your poll and add a different emoji for each option.
Step 4: Once the poll is submitted, team members can hover over the poll and use the emoji response option.
They can now react with an emoji that represents their answer.
Step 5: As your team members vote, you’ll see a count for each emoji.
