After his successful tenure with the Indians, Yan Gomes was traded to the Washington Nationals in November 2018. In 2019, he contributed to the Nationals’ World Series victory and made the final out of the series-clinching Game 7.

In the following years, Gomes continued to make an impact, signing a two-year contract with the Nationals in December 2019. During the shortened 2020 season, he delivered a strong performance with a .284 batting average.

In July 2021, Yan Gomes was traded to the Oakland Athletics along with Josh Harrison. Finally, on December 1, 2021, he signed a two-year contract with the Chicago Cubs, including a club option for 2024.
