The Giants declared on November 3, 2021, that McKinney was a part of the COVID-19 process. The Giants defeated the Raiders, 23–16, in Week 9 thanks to McKinney’s seven tackles, two interceptions of Derek Carr’s throws, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

For his efforts, he was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week. McKinney was injured in an ATV accident during the Giants’ Week 9 bye week, breaking his hand and keeping him out of action for several weeks.
