Robert Covington first opened his eyes in Bellwood, Illinois, United States on 14 December 1990. He grew up with his mother Teresa Bryant and his step-father Dennis Bryant. His career began to take shape while playing in the NBA D-League. During the 2013-14 season, he averaged 23.2 points and 9.2 rebounds per game that season, earning him the Rookie of the Year in 2014.
Following a successful season, he received a five year deal from the Philadelphia 76ers on 15 November, 2014. He played four season for the 76ers before being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2018-19 season.
