Kim Potter Biography
Kim Potter was born on December 26, 1971, in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. Back in 2022, she turned 51 years old. She grew up in the same city and attended Park Center High School, where she played on the school’s softball team.
Kim is the officer who shot and Killed Daunte Wright on 11th April 2021 after he resisted arrest and re-entered his vehicle during a traffic stop.
On April 11, 2021, Potter was identified as the police officer who fatally shot a 20-year-old African-American man, identified as Daunte Wright. The shooting incident happened during a traffic stop in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area. Upon Wright’s shooting, he drove several blocks before crashing his vehicle into another and hitting a cement barrier. Daunte Wright was pronounced dead at the scene.
A day later, in a statement, the Brooklyn Center police said that Potter meant to use her Taser but instead ended up grabbing her gun, and shot Daunte Wright. Two days later, Potter and Brooklyn Center police chief Tim Gannon resigned from their positions.
Potter is a 26-year police veteran and had worked for the Brooklyn Center Police Department for more than two decades. She joined the Brooklyn Center Police Department in 1995, at the age of 22 years.
On April 12, 2021, The Hennepin County medical examiner released a report, the report determined the manner of death to be a homicide, saying that Daunte Wright had “died of a gunshot wound of the chest”. The same day Wright’s family hired civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump to represent them, on the other hand, Potter is represented by attorney Earl Gray.
After Daunte Wright’s shooting mourners and protesters gathered near the shooting scene to demand justice for Wright.
Kim Potter’s Release from Prison
