Dominique Wilkins is an American former professional basketball player and now Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played a total of 15 seasons in the NBA, spending 11 years with the Atlanta Hawks and stints with Los Angeles Clippers, Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs and the Orlando Magic.

Wilkins played collegiate basketball for the University of Georgia and was selected by the Atlanta Hawks 1st round, 3rd overall pick in the 1982 NBA draft. Wilkins then featured in the McDonald’s All-American Game, the Capital Classic, the Kentucky Derby Festival Classic, and the Dapper Dan Classic all-star games. He had 16 points and 12 rebounds in the McDonald’s game, 26 points in the Capital Classic, and 22 points in the Derby Classic.

After high school, Wilkins attended University of Georgia, where he continued with his exciting basketball and left as the “Human Highlight Film.” Throughout his collegiate career, he averaged 21.6 points and was named SEC Men’s Basketball Player of the Year in 1981.

Wilkins left college just after his junior year, going down in Georgia’s history as one of the top picks of that year. He was selected 1st round, 3rd overall pick by the Utah Jazz in the 1982 NBA draft.

However, Wilkins was immediately shipped off to the Atlanta Hawks for John Drew, Freeman Williams and $1 million in cash as he was unwilling to play as a power forward, because his preference was to play as a small forward.

Wilkins played 11 seasons in the NBA for the Atlanta Hawks. For ten (10) consecutive seasons, he averaged more than 25 points per game, and captured a scoring title in 1985–86 with an average of 30.3 points per game.

Wilkins had short stints with the Los Angeles Clippers, the Boston Celtics, the San Antonio Spurs, and the Orlando Magic. He also starred for Panathinaikos Athens (a professional team in Greece’s top-tier level Greek Basket League, with whom he won his first titles, the FIBA European League and the Greek Cup), and Fortitudo Bologna (a professional team in Italy’s top-tier level LBA) before he retired in 1999.
