Big Boi whose real name Antwan André Patton was born on February 1, 1975 in Savannah, Georgia. His parents are unknown but as a child he moved to Atlanta. He grew up there in Atlanta and started rapping at a young age. Before moving to Atlanta with his aunt, Big Boi studied at Tri-Cities High School, a visual and performing arts magnet school and it was there he met Andre 3000 who he later joined forces with to form Outkast. He attended Herschel V. Jenkins High School. He has credited his grandparents and uncle for being the pushers and motivators in his music career.
Outkast released their groundbreaking debut album Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik in 1994 to critical acclaim. The album was a massive hit, selling over two million copies and earning several awards including a Grammy for Best Rap Album.
