Davies was best known as the writer and director of autobiographical films such as Distant Voices, Still Lives, The Long Day Closes, and The House of Mirth.

Terence Davies was born to his parents in Kensington, Liverpool, United Kingdom. Though he’s famous, his parents’ name, date of birth, age, and occupation are unknown to us as of this writing.
The late filmmaker was raised Catholic by his deeply religious mother but at the age of twenty-two (22), he rejected religion and considered himself an atheist. His father died of cancer when Davies was seven (7) years old
Davies died at 77 on Saturday, 7 October 2023. According to the filmmaker’s official Instagram account, he died peacefully at home after a short illness.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Terence Davies, who died peacefully at home after a short illness, today on 7th October 2023” the statement read.
At the time of this report, the family was planning his final funeral arrangement and the details are yet to be finalized. We will keep you updated.
Born and raised in Liverpool, Davies worked as a clerk in a shipping office and a bookkeeper in an accountancy firm for 10 years before enrolling at drama school in Coventry.
His film credits include; Passing Time, The Long Day Closes, The Neon Bible, The House Of Mirth, The Deep Blue Sea, Sunset Song, A Quiet Passion, and Benedication, among others.
Davies’s most recent work, the Netflix drama Benediction, starring Slow Horses actor Jack Lowden and Doctor Who’s Peter Capaldi, explored the life of war poet Siegfried Sassoon.
His films have earned critical acclaim over his more than 40-year career. However, as a filmmaker working outside of the mainstream Hollywood system, he struggled to get his films made.
“The industry is geared to making money, and it’s geared around stars,” Davies said in an interview in 2022 following the release of his film Benediction.
