Miranda Maverick is the daughter of Cordell Maverick and Debbie Maverick, two individuals who have played significant roles in shaping her life and career. Cordell and Debbie have been supportive pillars in Miranda’s journey, providing her with the encouragement, guidance, and love necessary to pursue her dreams in both academia and mixed martial arts (MMA).
Her journey into martial arts began at the age of sixteen, inspired by watching Ronda Rousey compete on television and encouraged by her father. While attending Buffalo High School in Missouri, she joined the wrestling team, even competing on the men’s varsity team before shifting her focus to mixed martial arts (MMA) after graduation.
Despite her dedication to MMA, Maverick excelled academically, graduating with honors from Drury University with majors in psychology and sociology in 2018. Continuing her academic pursuits, she began pursuing a PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA.
Maverick’s MMA career took off in 2015 when she started competing as an amateur under various promotions, including Kansas City Fighting Alliance and ShoFight. With an impressive record of 7–1 as an amateur, she caught the attention of Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp, leading to her professional debut.
In her professional debut at Invicta FC 20 in November 2016, Maverick secured a victory via rear naked choke against Samantha Diaz. She continued her success in Invicta FC, facing tough opponents like Gabby Romero and Victoria Leonardo. Maverick also participated in the Invicta Phoenix Series flyweight tournament, emerging victorious and solidifying her presence in the division.
Transitioning to the UFC, Maverick faced notable opponents such as Liana Jojua and Gillian Robertson, showcasing her skills in the octagon. Despite facing setbacks, including injuries and controversial decisions, Maverick has continued to persevere, earning victories against opponents like Sabina Mazo and Andrea Lee.
Outside of MMA, Maverick has also found success in grappling, winning a silver medal in the brown belt lightweight division of the IBJJF No-Gi World Championship 2023.
