When is the next Escape from Tarkov wipe? Schedule explained

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • There are usually two wipes a year in Escape from Tarkov (Summer and Winter)
  • The next wipe is scheduled to happen in August 2024
  • Wipes reset your account back to its initial state, removing all items and progression

It’s vital that you know when the next wipe in Escape from Tarkov will be, as it’ll help you maximise your time, complete quests, and try out all of the meta weapons before your progress is reset.

Unlike most games out there, Tarkov resets your progress twice a year, meaning that you have to build up your stash, complete quests, and progress through the Traders all over again. What doesn’t help is that each wipe doesn’t have a fixed date in-game, so it’s constantly a race to keep up with the latest news and information.

When is the next wipe?

It has now been officially confirmed that the next wipe – otherwise known as patch 0.15 – is scheduled to drop on August 20, 2024.

Battlestate Games is happy to announce the return of the summer Twitch Drops campaign that will run from August 23, 2PM BST / 9AM EDT to August 28, 2PM BST / 9AM EDT.

This is due to be in line with the latest installment of Twitch Drops, which bring a lot of traffic to the game and its most popular streamers.

It has also been confirmed that the installation of patch 0.15 will commence at 7 AM BST / 2 AM EDT, and will last for roughly eight hours – making the new wipe available at approximately 3 PM BST on August 20.

Tomorrow, August 20, at 7 AM BST / 2 AM EDT we are planning to install patch 0.15.0.0 for #EscapefromTarkov. The installation will take approximately 8 hours, but may be extended if required. The game will not be accessible during this period.

If you’ve been playing Tarkov for a while though you’ll know that wipe days aren’t exactly known for going smoothly, and I’d not be surprised if this expected time is extended.

Eight hours is certainly the longest downtime in my memory though, so hopefully BSG is overcompensating, and we might even have the game earlier than expected!

This date does slightly contradict the initial projection of ‘early August’ from Battlestate Games, but that’s only natural as all of the new content is prepared and checked ahead of the launch in-game. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some other minor delay in the works as we approach wipe day, although they do have a hard deadline of August 23 to coincide with the Twitch Drops event.

With this being the typical ‘summer’ wipe, I wouldn’t expect another until at least December 2024. It is unclear whether things will slow down a little bit as we’re eventually approaching the full version, so it could perhaps be longer as new changes are prepped.

How often do wipes happen in Escape from Tarkov?

Historically there have always been two wipes a year in Escape from Tarkov, with one happening in the middle in Summer and one just before the end in Winter.

There have been 15 wipes in total across the course of the game’s lifespan, with an average of around 160 days or five and a half months between wipes.

If the next wipe was to land on August 31st – the latest possible date if we’re going by the roadmap – it would have been 248 days since the previous 0.14 wipe. This would make it the longest wipe by quite a margin, and even the shortest possible timeframe would make it the second-longest wipe in history.

What does a wipe do?

Wipes reset your progress completely and return your account to the state it would be in if you just purchased the game. Any items and roubles that you obtained during the wipe will be deleted, and any progress you’ve made with quests or Traders is gone too.

You’ll thankfully retain any of the edition-specific items that you’re entitled to, so you don’t have to worry about losing your Gamma case or special weapons every half year.

Wipes help keep the game fresh and the player base active, as it can start to feel a bit repetitive in the late wipe stages with nothing left to do and little tension left to keep raids intriguing. Many players agree that the first month of a new wipe is the best period, as everyone is on a level playing field and it captures much of what makes Tarkov so unique.
