Jérémy Baffour Doku born on 27 May 2002, is a Belgian professional footballer who plays as a winger for Ligue 1 club Rennes and the Belgium national team.
Best known for his speed, dribbling, and creativity, Jeremy Doku has been recognized as one of the most talented young players in the world in his position. He is nicknamed The Belgian Flash.
Jeremy Doku started playing football at a young age in Antwerp for KVC Olympic Deurne and Tubantia Borgerhout, later playing for Beerschot. He then moved to R.S.C. Anderlecht in 2012 at the age of 10. He made his professional debut for Anderlecht in a 4-2 loss in the Belgian First Division A to Saint-Truiden on 25 November 2018, at the age of 16. He started just four games and played a total of 469 minutes in the league campaign. On 2 January 2022, Jeremy Doku scored his first goal against AS Nancy in the 4th round of the Coupe de France; however, Rennes lost the match 5–4 on penalties, after 120 minutes ended 1–1.
During the first part of the 2022–23 season, Jeremy Doku was mainly recruited by Rennes coach Bruno Génésio as a replacement, but he returned to the starting lineup in the final months of the season. Following the departure of Kamaldeen Sulemana during the winter transfer window, Jeremy Doku was given the number 10 shirt, previously wearing the number 11.
On 30 April, Jeremy Doku scored another brace against Angers, giving his side a 4-2 win after scoring the last two goals in the second half, one of which was a spectacular volley from in the penalty area. On 21 May, he scored the third goal of Rennes’ 5–0 away win against AC Ajaccio, a superb solo effort as he started running with the ball towards goal from inside your team’s field.
Jeremy Doku finished the season with six league goals, helping Rennes finish fourth. He started the 2023/24 season for Rennes in League 1 with a goal in the 5-1 win against Metz on 13 August. Jeremy Doku represented Belgium U17 at the 2018 UEFA European Under-17 Championship.
He made his debut for the Belgian national team on 5 September 2020 against Denmark in the UEFA Nations League. Three days later, he scored his first goal for the Belgian national team in a 5–1 win over Iceland.
At UEFA Euro 2020, to be held in June 2021, Jeremy Doku was one of the substitutes for the Belgium national team in the group stage match against Denmark and was included in the starting list for the next match, followed by Finland; he was again in the starting line-up for Belgium’s 2-1 loss to Italy in the quarter-finals.
Despite Belgium’s disqualification from the tournament, Jeremy Doku captured the public’s attention with his performance, winning a penalty for his team and completing eight dribbles, a record for a single-player, teenager in Euro history.
In November 2022, Jeremy Doku was called up by coach Roberto Martínez to the Belgium squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He made his World Cup debut as a substitute in Belgium’s final match against Croatia.
