Professional Career
In July 2001, Nauta enrolled in the American Navy. He worked as a cook in the Navy. In 2012, he started working for the White House Military Office’s Presidential Food Service. Nauta became Donald Trump’s personal valet during his time in office. functioning as his body man and butler.
Nauta accompanied Trump to Mar-a-Lago after he left office in January 2021. He also joined Trump at his club in Bedminster, New Jersey. He routinely accompanied Trump on his campaign trips and public engagements. His time in the Navy came to an end later that year, and he started working for the Save America PAC in August of that same year. Additionally, Trump’s 2024 campaign for president compensated him.
In the FBI investigation of Donald Trump’s handling of official documents, Nauta was called as a witness. The later-filed indictment states that during the final weeks of Trump’s administration, both Trump and Nauta packed belongings from the White House to send to Mar-a-Lago in Florida. According to the indictment, between November 2021 and January 2022, Nauta allegedly carried boxes of illegally kept sensitive documents from a Mar-a-Lago storage area to Trump’s home.
A federal grand jury indicted Nauta and Trump on June 8, 2023, in the Miami-based U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Trump was charged with 37 charges, compared to six for Nauta. Nauta was accused of conspiring to obstruct justice, withholding information, falsifying records, concealing information in the course of a federal inquiry, and making false claims and representations.
