Tony Bennett whose original name is Anthony Dominick Benedetto, happens to be the youngest child of John Benedetto and Anna Suraci, a seamstress born on August 3, 1926, in Astoria, Queens, New York, in the United States of America. He grew up alongside his two older siblings John Jr and Mary. Unfortunately, he was raised in a poor family, his dad was ill and couldn’t work. At age ten, John Sr his dad passed on. At this same time, Tony gained the passion to be a musician getting inspiration from entertainers like Judy Garland, Al Jolson, and Bing Crosby. He eventually ventured into a career as a singer. He performed at the opening of the Triborough Bridge.  At age 13, he performed in a number of Italian restaurants around his native Queens as a singer. 

He had his high school education at New York’s School of Industrial Art studying music and painting but quit along the line. He took up several jobs including working for Associated Press as a copyboy and runner but was more focused on his music career as he performed as a singing waiter in several nightclubs.

He later joined the US Army to fight in the final stage of World War II.

He worked with the famous American singer Lady Gaga. They released the albums Love for Sale, and Cheek to Cheek which achieved commercial success. Tony has sold over 50 million records worldwide and has won 20 Grammy Awards, making him one of the most decorated musicians of all time.
