James Caan was an American singer and film actor who became famous and came to prominence when he starred in the “Godfather” as Sonny Corleone. He was awarded the Academy Award and further nominations at the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his performance on the Godfather. He played the same role in Godfather II. On March 26, 1940, the late James Edmund Cann was welcomed by his parents Sophie Falkenstein and Arthur Caan, a kosher meat dealer all of the blessed memory. James was raised at Sunnyside Queens alongside his two siblings Barbara Caan and Roonie Caan.
He first had his education in New York City and later moved to Michigan State University. He transferred to Hofstra University in New York but dropped out due to his love for acting and enrolled in New York City’s Neighbourhood Playhouse School of the Theatre where he studied for five years. In 1960, the American actor started his acting career appearing off-Broadway in the play La Ronde.
He first appeared on tv in an episode of the series Naked City. He has since then appeared in many movies and series of which are elite and have won him prestigious awards and nominations. Upon his death in 2022, he was worth US$20 million.
