The 10 Most Expensive Tequilas in the World Ever Sold

People are increasingly willing to part with a substantial chunk of pay for their beloved agave-based beverage as Tequila’s reputation among consumers evolves from party drink to spirit for all occasions with a developing premium appeal.

That’s why we’ve compiled a list of the world’s top ten most expensive bottles of Tequila. Buckle up, because these are genuinely out-of-this-world expensive.

List of 10 Most Expensive Tequilas in the World?

1. Tequila Ley .925 Diamante: US$3.5 million

Tequila Ley.925 Diamante, often regarded as the most expensive Tequila in the world, now holds the Guinness World Record. The liquid inside the bottle is unique; it is made from 100% select agave that has been barrel-aged for 7 years; it is a premium extra aejo with a 42% ABV.

2. Ley .925 Ultra-Premium: $225,000

Not content with accomplishing it once, Tequila Lay previously held the Guinness World Record for the world’s most costly Tequila. It received the award in 2006 for their Ley.925 Ultra-Premium, a refined sip created with pure blue agave sap and barrel-aged for six years.

Another eye-catching feature is the bottle, which is made of pure white gold, platinum, and yellow gold. It is believed that only 33 bottles were produced.

3. Clase Azul 15th Anniversary Edition: $30,000

The price of Clase Azul’s 15th Anniversary Edition is a bit lower than the stratospheric heights of the previous entries, but it’ll still set you back a good coin in today’s market. When they first became available, initially only in Mexico, one of the 15 bottles cost $30,000.

Clase Azul, which developed the bottles to commemorate its 15th year in operation, did, however, offer a 15-bottle set that included one of the 15th Anniversary Edition bottles. The asking price is $450,000. Only two of the fifteen-bottle collections have been made available.

The bottles are hand-painted ceramics produced by local artists and are housed in a gorgeous box with 24-carat gold inlay.

4. Patrón En Lalique, Serie 2: $7,500

Patrón is linked with Tequila, one of the most well-known producers in the industry. In conjunction with the luxury French crystal brand Lalique, it also makes one of the most costly Tequilas in the world.

The spirit is a gorgeous golden extra aejo aged in American oak, French oak, and sherry casks for eight years.

The bottle, on the other hand, is quite the showpiece: a cut crystal decanter enclosed in a mahogany box with a retractable viewing panel. The Lalique connection undoubtedly adds to the expression’s worth.

5. Patrón x Guillermo Del Toro Añejo Tequila: up to $5,000

Another Patrón collaboration, this time with famed Mexican film director and Jalisco native Guillermo Del Toro.

It’s an extra aejo expression made from a comb ination of Tequilas aged in wood barrels for five years. Guy Davis, a frequent Del Toro partner, designed the box, with the entire package emphasizing the process of consuming Tequila. The original package, which also included a limited edition liqueur, was $399, but it is now being auctioned for up to $5,000.

6. AsomBroso Reserva del Porto – $2,095 (up to $4,000)

Ricardo Gamarra, master distiller, used Port Barrels to sweeten this 40% ABV double barrel-rested Tequila.

The decanter’s story is similarly fascinating. It was inspired by a decanter Gamarra discovered in an 18th-century chateau in Europe and was constructed with the assistance of Italian artist Luciano Gambaro – the reproduction requiring more than two years to finish.

It will cost you $2,095 to obtain your own bottle, which is now out of stock.

7. Clase Azul Tequila Ultra Extra Añejo: $3,140

The renowned Clase Azul Tequila Ultra is Clase Azul’s second inclusion on the list. It’s easy to see why this remarkable expression is worth a big price when it’s described as “one of the world’s exclusive Tequilas” and restricted to 100 bottles per year.

Clase Azul Tequila Ultra Extra Aejo is currently available from numerous outlets, including The Whisky Exchange and Selfridges, in a decanter decorated with platinum, silver, and 24-carat gold.

8. Barrique De Ponciano Porfidio: $2,000

You’ll have to go all the way back to 2001 to find the last time this Tequila was released and sold, which means its market worth today is likely to be much greater than its original $2000 price tag.

It’s an aejo Tequila distilled completely of blue agave and matured for ten years in French oak barrels.

9. Jose Cuervo 250 Aniversario: around $2,000

Jose Cuervo is the world’s best-selling Tequila brand, and probably one of the most recognisable.

But that doesn’t rule out the possibility of the brand producing something unusual and ultra-premium as well. Jose Cuervo 250 Aniversario is created from blue agave and ‘ultra matured’ in ex-bourbon casks before being mixed in Cuervo’s cellar with Demijohns Tequila. The resulting Tequila is aged in Spanish sherry casks for another year before being bottled.

10. Deleón Leona Añejo Tequila: $1,000

Deleón Leona Aejo Tequila, our final item on the list, is the distillery’s top expression and will set you back roughly $1,000.
