He also notched 2 goals and 16 points throughout 65 regular-season games. In the 2020–21 season, while in his third year with the San Diego Gulls, Simon Benoit’s consistent and dependable defensive play earned him a call-up to the NHL. On April 29, 2021, he made his NHL debut with the Ducks, making an impact as part of the team’s third defensive pairing. Despite not scoring, he contributed valiantly, playing for 12 minutes in a 3–2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings.
In the subsequent 2021–22 season, Benoit etched his name in the NHL record books. On October 28, 2021, he scored his inaugural NHL goal while donning the Ducks’ jersey, a game-tying goal that showcased his offensive prowess in a thrilling 4-3 overtime loss to the Buffalo Sabres.
After a five-season journey within the Anaheim Ducks organization, Benoit embarked on a new chapter. As a restricted free agent, he wasn’t extended a qualifying offer by the Ducks, thus paving the way for his release as a free agent. In August 2023, he embraced a fresh opportunity, signing a one-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he hopes to continue his promising career in the NHL.
