When Guthrie began working in broadcasting in October 1993, she was employed by Butte, Montana’s KTVM, an NBC affiliate. However, the local news department was shut down on her tenth day there.
After that, she started working for the ABC affiliate KMIZ in Columbia, Missouri, where she stayed for two years. In 1995, she returned to Tucson and started working for the NBC affiliate KVOA.
