Rise of the Rōnin is the latest game from Tema Ninja and looks to be one of the most exciting releases of the year. Below, we will go into detail about everything we know so far from the setting of the game, all the trailers we have seen so far, the release date, and more.
There looks to be a big focus on traversal and taking to the rooftop to explore the environments, which has caused comparisons with games like Assassin’s Creed and Ghost of Tsushima, but since the initial reveal in 2022, it’s plain to see there is more here than just another Assassin’s Creed clone.
Rise of the Rōnin release date
Rise of the Rōnin will be released on March 22, 2024. This is the same day Dragon’s Dogma 2 releases, making March an exciting month for any RPG fans out there. The release date was revealed at The Game Awards 2023, and reconfirmed during the January State of Play – for now, it looks like it will make the release date with no delays.

One of the most exciting aspects of the game is the setting. Team Ninja is taking us to 19th-century Japan to explore Edo, Yokohama and the surrounding countryside, with the Boshin War raging in the background. Players will have full freedom to explore the open world with a variety of different traversal options at their disposal.
Rise of the Rōnin platforms
Rise of the Rōnin is a PlayStation 5 exclusive, with no mention of whether or not we can expect the game to be released on other platforms in the future. It’s not uncommon for PlayStation games to release on PC a year or so after launch, so if you don’t play on PS5 you may be able to play the game at a later date.

So far, we have had a few trailers highlighting what we can expect from the game showing off the world, gameplay, bosses, traversal and more. Here are all the trailers of Rise of the Rōnin so far:
The first trailer showed us a bit of what we can expect from the world, as well as the 19th-century Japanese setting and a first glimpse at the tension being caused by Japan’s reopening to the West. The most exciting moment is no doubt the wingsuit we get to see, highlighting just how much freedom we will have to explore in this world.
The second trailer was when we first got to see the release date as well as a better look at combat in the game. It is hard not to compare to Sekiro, especially with the brutal finishers and grapple hook, but Rise of the Rōnin will have an open world and we get to see even more of it above as well as plenty of different weapons ranging from swords to guns.
In the third trailer, we get our best look yet at the moment-to-moment gameplay going from the ground grappling to a roof, straight into the wingsuit (Avicula) and then straight onto a horse all in a continuous swift movement. The date in this trailer, 1858, is also earlier than we saw in a previous trailer so it looks like the game will span multiple years during this period. Not only does the above trailer show off the traversal, but also the brutal combat we have come to expect from Team Ninja, as well as some very daunting enemies.
