Poliwrath & Politoed evolution explained

With the release of the Teal Mask DLC returning many old Pokemon to the new game, fans are wondering how to evolve Poliwhirl into Poliwrath and Politoed in Scarlet & Violet. Veteran trainers may remember how to get the Tadpole Pokemon to one of its two final forms, but many new players may be unfamiliar or even those experienced might be unsure if those methods are the same.

So, let’s dive right into everything there is to know about how to evolve Poliwhirl in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet into Poliwrath or Politoed – made possible with the Teal Mask DLC.

In order to evolve Poliwhirl in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, you’ll need one of two items: a Water Stone or a King’s Rock, each needed to evolve it into Poliwrath or Politoed respectively.

Luckily, both of these items are already available to get in the base game. So, if you’ve already completed Scarlet or Violet, or at least progressed a decent amount through the game, odds are you’ll be able to get the Poliwhirl evolution items right away.

To evolve Poliwhirl into a Poliwrath using a Water Stone, the easiest way is by buying one from a Delibird Presents store in Cascarrafa, Levincia, or Mesagoza – available for just 3000 Pokedollars. Keep in mind, however, that you’ll need to have at least three gym badges to unlock Water Stones at the store.

Once you have your Water Stone, you just need to select it in your inventory to use on Poliwhirl directly. Then, your newly evolved Poliwrath will be yours.

The method to evolving Poliwhirl into a Politoed in Scarlet & Violet requires some extra steps, but is still achievable; the easiest way to start is by buying a King’s Rock from the Mesagoza Delibird Presents store for 3000 Pokedollars. Similar to the Water Stone, you’ll need at least four gym badges to unlock the King’s Rock to purchase at the store.

Once you have one, you need to give your King’s Rock to Poliwhirl to hold. Then, to reach the Politoed evolution, you need to evolve Poliwhirl by trading it to another player whilst holding the King’s Rock.

The simplest way to do is this via Link Trade in the Poke Portal, but if you don’t have a required Nintendo Online Membership, you can carry out a trade locally using the Union Circle.

After you pull off your trade and ideally trade back, you’ll have your freshly evolved Politoed.

That’s everything you need to know about how to evolve Poliwhirl into Poliwrath and Politoed in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet – now possible in The Teal Mask DLC.
