Overwatch 2 Leaver Penalties explained for Season 10

A new Overwatch 2 season always brings plenty of new changes to the game, and Season 10 has introduced not only a new hero, but also some major changes to how Leaver Penalties work in the popular hero shooter.

Leaver Penalties are there to try and prevent players from dipping from games when they’re losing because it’s unfair to other players in the team. Like with everything in a live service game, there are always tweaks and changes so knowing how these penalties work is important – you don’t want to unintentionally be punished in the game.

Unranked Leaver Penalties explained

Here are the penalties you’ll receive if you leave a certain amount of matches in Unranked mode:

Games LeftPenalty
1 out of your last 20 matchesA warning
2-3 out of your last 20 matches5 minutes of no matchmaking
4-5 out of your last 20 matches20 minutes of no matchmaking
6-9 out of your last 20 matches4 hours of no matchmaking
10+ out of your last 20 matches48 hours of no matchmaking

As you can see from the table above, the more matches you leave, the higher the penalty you’ll get.

There are no outright bans for leaving Unranked matches, but you can be put on up to 48 hours of suspension from matchmaking. Even leaving a few matches will leave you unable to matchmake for a while.

Competitive Leaver Penalties explained

The penalties for Competitive mode are a lot harsher, with players being temporarily suspended whenever they leave any Competitive match.

Leaving one match will result in a 15-minute ban, with the penalties getting stronger if games are left repeatedly. There’s also a rule in Competitive mode that will ban players for the rest of the current season if they leave 10 matches or more.
