Overwatch 2 can be played on Mac, but it’s not recommended

Overwatch 2 was the follow-up to the supremely popular and Game of the Year-winning Overwatch, and while it’s possible to play it on Mac hardware, it isn’t a recommended way to play the game.

With a free-to-play model where players only need to pay for skins, souvenirs and various other cosmetic items, the second iteration of the game was not as well received as the first. Now Season 10 is here, things can only take a more positive turn, and with more players flocking to the scene, that includes some playing on Mac.

Playing Overwatch 2 on Mac is less than ideal

Overwatch 2 is not supported natively on Mac, though it is on most other gaming platforms. That being said if you have an Intel Mac, you can still run Overwatch 2 through Bootcamp.

If you have a newer M1 or M2 Mac, however, the only way you can run Overwatch 2 is via a streaming service – which is our least favourite method to run a Windows game on Mac. Using Battlenet will simply not work as the game is not supported on Mac.

Will the game ever be on Mac?

It certainly seems like it will not be coming to Mac at all, certainly not anytime soon. The game’s nearly two years old and there’s no sign of any movement from Blizzard on supporting the platform natively.

If you are still keen to play, you still have the option to play it with most major gaming platforms like Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo Switch. Alternatively, you can play it through a streaming camp or Windows emulator, though both these methods aren’t especially reliable and can affect the game’s performance.
