Nicole Beharie is an American actress best known for her leading roles in films such as the drama American Violet (2008), the psychological drama Shame (2011), the sports biopic 42 (2013), and the independent drama Miss Juneteenth ( 2020). From 2013 to 2016, she starred in the Fox supernatural drama Sleepy Hollow.
Nicole Beharie was born in West Palm Beach, Florida. When she was a child, his father worked for the U.S. State Department. Thus she grew up in the United Kingdom, Jamaica, Nigeria, and Panama. She attended Orangeburg Wilkinson High School in Orangeburg, South Carolina, and graduated in 2003 from the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts & Humanities, a public boarding school in Greenville.

Nicole Beharie made her acting debut in the 2008 film American Violet, where she played the lead role. Also that year, she played Sarah Ward in the American sports drama The Express: Ernie Davis’ story with actor Rob Brown. In the Lifetime movie Sins of the Mother (2010), Beharie plays Shay Hunter, a struggling college student who begins a journey to mend her broken relationship with her mother Nona, played by Jill Scott.
In 2011, Nicole Beharie performed five original songs as a singer-songwriter with German actor Ken Duken in the romantic film The Last Day Without You. In the film adaptation of Russell Leigh Sharman’s play Apartment 4E, she plays Piper, a troubled young woman who never leaves her apartment.
Nicole Beharie played Marianne in Steve McQueen’s film Shame, portraying Michael Fassbender’s love interest. Wesley Morris of the Boston Globe praised her performance, calling it “a marvel of natural transparency.”

In 2013, Nicole Beharie played Rachel Robinson, the wife of Jackie Robinson (played by Chadwick Boseman), in the historical drama Baseball 42. That same year, she began playing the role of Abbie Mills in the Fox fantasy series Sleepy Hollow, based on the 1820 film “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” by Washington Irving.
In the spring of 2016, Nicole Beharie left the series and her character died in the series’ third season finale episode titled “Ragnarok”, which aired on April 8, 2016. She later said that autoimmunity was one of the reasons for her departure and also revealed that she struggled to find work and was considered problematic after leaving the show.
In 2020, she starred in Miss Juneteenth, a film about a former pageant winner preparing her teenage daughter to take on her former crown. In 2015, she posed for the May issue of Allure magazine
