MW3 & Warzone Season 3 patch notes see the return of Rebirth Island & more

Season 3 has arrived for Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone, bringing back some revamped versions of old-favourite maps, and plenty of balance changes to shake up the meta in a big way.

It’s safe to say that it’s been a rough few months for Call of Duty, with the player base consistently clamouring for either balance overhauls or new content to tide them over. Thankfully, Season 3 seems to be delivering on all fronts – here’s a rundown of what you need to know for both MW3 and Warzone.

MW3 Multiplayer patch notes – the short version

For MW3 Multiplayer, Season 3 comes mostly with new content. That means new maps, modes, weapons, Operators, and much more:

New Maps

  • Emergency
  • 6 Star
  • Tanked
  • Growhouse
  • Grime (In-Season)
  • Checkpoint (In-Season)

New Modes

  • Capture the Flag
  • One in the Chamber
  • Minefield (In-Season)
  • Escort (In-Season)

New Weapons

New Operators

  • Banshee
  • Hush
  • Snoop Dogg
  • Stasis
  • Cheech
  • Chong

On top of all this, you can also expect to see a bunch of new Aftermarket Parts, some new Perks, and some new Equipment, too. I’m personally most excited to see the new maps coming this season, as I’ve been getting a little tired of playing on the same old stomping grounds from when the game launched.

Warzone patch notes – the short version

Rebirth Island, remastered for Warzone and Modern Warfare 3Click to enlarge

The headline feature of Season 3 for Warzone is the return of Rebirth Island. Revamped by developer Beenox, the map has undergone some TLC, with a few changes under the hood to keep things fresh.

You’ll likely see a few changes to some of the POIs on the map, and it also comes in three different time-of-day variants. Partway through the season, we’ll also see some destruction come to Rebirth Island. During the Infil period at the start of the round, there’ll be the chance for either the Lighthouse to disintegrate, the Prison Roof to collapse, or the Water Tower to get partially destroyed.

As someone who never jumped in on Rebirth Island when it was popular back in the day, I’m excited to give the new mode a try and see what all the hype is about.

For new modes, Warzone Bootcamp makes its debut. We’ve explained what this is in a separate guide, but it’s essentially a smaller version of Warzone that substitutes players with bots. It’s intended as a training mode for new players to get to grips with how the game works.

Of course, Warzone also gets all of the new weapons, Operators, and equipment from the MW3 Multiplayer patch notes too, so there’s plenty to look forward to in Season 3 for the free-to-play version of Call of Duty.
